The Spell - A Kinetic Novel

First visual novel I played, was the free version of Her lie I tried to believe and it broke me.....in a positive way. Just now played The Spell. This game is part of a bundle with includes also the extented version of Her lie I trie to believe and a third game. I have from Drunken Cat Purrudoctions ALL their other vn's on my wishlist! And the music, for what I heard in the games I played, is a 10 out of 10. The Spell had it all for me: I loved all the routes, but Steve's broke me. A happy ending? Play it for yourself, to feel the conclude for yourself and feel the vibe!

This visual novel is really good. It almost left me crying, the ending is pretty sad. The story is really interesting. Art - it's OK, really cute though.

Great game even if you're left with a couple of small loose ends. They are not central to the story, however. This is real who-done-it for folks who like mysteries. I highly recommend this game!

A good short visual novel with views from three different characters, following the same story.

Wow, the ending has really caught me by surprise. Having played [i]Her Lie I Tried to Believe[/i], I knew there would be some twists to the story, and there definitely was. It ended with many questions unanswered. Throughout the story are three characters with their own perspective. The Spell is well narrated offering reasonable insight to each character. There was a fair share of funny moments, awkward ones, and a lot of sorrowful moments. I really felt sympathetic and connected with the characters, their emotions and thoughts were well illustrated (figuratively and literally I suppose). Character design was well done, the music was fitting, and the little details in the art are supplementary. While not all of my questions were answered, I was very happy to play through this VN.

I really enjoyed the story. It did let me flip flop every now and then with my guess how it would end. I didn't expect this ending though. Full disclosure: I sadly am a pretty lazy reader (i only read about 3 - 4 VN at this point and i am pretty bad with books too) but this story made me curious to follow through - and that's not easy to achieve. The beginning felt dragging when i started but knowing that it wouldn't be a long read for others i kept going. After the first 3-4(?) in-game days i realised that it all was necessary to build a good foundation for about the rest of the story. After i am done, i gotta say - i was right and it was worth the time i invested reading. There aren't many graphics but the ones they used were pleasing enaugh. I did read the first VN by this Dev https://store.steampowered.com/app/806510/Her_Lie_I_Tried_To_Believe/ and enjoyed that one too for it's unusual story but i have to admit that the writing style was a little bit different (inferior?) compared to 'the spell'.

I wish it ended differently, but oh well, such is life.

This VN shines on its artwork and concept, but flounders in its second half. While I really appreciate the majority of The Spell - with emphasis on Eloise's arc - it struggles to remain immediate and compelling once it branches out the story, over-complicating the larger affair with melodrama. The ending has a unique idea of a twist, with regards to "Hero's Journey" stuff that those who reached the end will be aware of. But the strong opening and conceptual ending doesn't really make up for the weak core. That being said, the art and concept alone are enough for me to give a favorable review. But only just, as the piece in my eyes does have a number of narrative faults. Lower expectations should be the guiding principle for most people playing this.

Well for the price of this Kinetic Novel you will at least get what you paid for. The interactions of the characters at the start are great and they grow on you as well as each other. But reading through other character's perspectives you get a better view on things and it's interesting to how the characters perceptions of each other click together to make a good read. The Perspectives combine for a deserving ending, it did not feel out of place at all considering the events that took place. It was still a beautiful end, and yes it does leave you thinking "what if" a lot, but it's supposed to do that. And with this ending, you know... it is well deserved, and perfectly fitting. Please check it out, if you liked "Her Lie I Tried To Believe" then this is right up your alley. Hangover Cat Purroductions did a great job on this one and i loved the end result.

I just finished this game right before typing this up and I honestly can't. The ending hit me harder than it should have and it hurts. It's an amazing story that's well executed and I'm happy I spent my time on it. I'd also recommend Her Lie I Tried to Believe. especially before this one, because although a bit different in terms of store it also has a twisting end that hits you. Unless you were to get the extended version in which you'd fairly happy. All in all, amazing. I'm off to play the next game!
