The Saint was a curious indie horror game that provided more flaw than fun in my community's experience. The story gives too much throughout; while there are some beautiful and well thought-out set pieces, most of the story is delivered via dozens of notes redundantly hammering in a story that is clear as early as the game's initial few minutes. As its singular greatest faux pas, the finale directly explains the entire story in dialogue. There aren't puzzles, per se; at its most interactive, much like other walking sims, the game is walking back-and-forth until the next sequence triggers, or picking up a series of objects that your character sorts in the right places when you interact. Door won't open? Turn around or back up five feet. Not sure why you picked up that object? Don't worry, you'll set it down in a room or two. Most of it felt very "and then THIS HAPPENS!" until one sequence fairly late in the game that felt more coherent. The movement speed when you sprint was a pleasant surprise, but there are multiple "hallway" sections where you're forced to move slowly that would benefit from a slight speed increase. Performance is all over the place. Some of the most graphically intensive portions of the game would run flawlessly, while simple sections with no visible moving parts would see constant frame skips. One crash made us replay roughly a third of the game because checkpoints were so few and far between. Adjusting the Textures affected the shadows/brightness somehow, and the flashlight's flickering made it more of an annoyance than a helpful tool so we just kept it off whenever possible. The final scenery was lovely, and some stylistic choices like censoring characters' faces were clever (although they weren't applied consistently throughout). I appreciate what the dev was going for; I'm happy to see the dev communicating pretty actively and releasing patches. I'm glad to see positive reviews from others to balance out mine. I hope the game keeps getting better for those who play after.

A mon sens sorti bien trop tôt.
This was a short, but sweet little indie horror game that I enjoyed, despite some of the flaws present. I do wish Steam had more options other than yay or nay for a game, but for the price and the responsiveness of the solo dev to peoples issues and pushing out patches to make the experience better I'm going to give it a recommend. The game for all its simplicity crafts a really nice sense of horror. The woods in particular have a nice sense of foreboding that the lo-fi graphics help get across really nicely. There are also some moments where a feeling of claustrophobia can be pretty palpable. What is nice is no particular segment outstays its welcome, so everything feels brisk. The experience can be completed in a sitting, and I felt the game ended surprisingly abruptly. But the game at the end has a message that I felt was sincere and heartfelt. Regarding performance, I think it was adequate. I noticed, as I had played this over a couple days, that as patches were put out that the performance got better. The main issues I ran into were regarding the sensitivity settings for the mouse. It seemed each time I booted the game up those settings would revert to the default, which was incredibly high. On a couple occassions this happened when changing scenes as well. Easy enough to adjust, but worth pointing out. I only experienced one crash, and it may have been caused by my missing a task and the game seeing that. Upon redoing the section, everything went well. I also ran across a moment where a door I walked through remained open, and after some scenery illusions I went through it to fall into a bottomless pit. I went into the menu and selected restart, as I thought it meant to restart to the last checkpoint, but unfortunately that actually meant restart the whole game. Mercifully the game is short, but worth pointing out. The developer has been very communicative in the forums, and has already put out multiple patches in the four days since the game launched. Each one has improved the experience, so I am recommended the game in its current state because the developer is being quite attentive to feedback. There are flaws, yes, but it looks like there is love and a desire to make the game as good as possible. So good luck to the dev on further refining this game, and congratulations to them as well on their first title.
An overall decent indie game with a very gripping and immersive atmosphere. The graphics do a great job of setting the mood. Gameplay is straightforward, and even if you get a bit lost at times, you quickly get the hang of it. Notes: Performance could be better as there are some frame drops. Also, just as a minor detail I noticed: there’s a small clipping bug where the camera can pass through textures when crouching near objects. It's not a big deal, just a tiny technical detail.
Really love the art style, short, but "lovely" horror game.
Not bad 10/7 Too short
