The Roottrees are Dead

The game is a little too slow and boring for me. There is a lot of typing and investigation on a fake web browser and information is either, way too easy to find or way to hard to find. It has a cool premise, but once I need to look up a guide to help me figure it out the magic was lost and nothing could convince me otherwise. If you get the game and like hard mystery solving, then just do that and don't try and find any hints; the duck was super unhelpful or too helpful. I just hoped they were be more than copy paste investigation; I see the allure, but you might as well just play Sudoku and get a new puzzle when the one you are on feels stale. I see the draw for all the positive review, but they definitely ended up misleading me and I felt a bit duped about what I was getting into. I like the premise, just not the game play, it felt really boring after 45 minutes.

One of the finest mystery games in recent memory. The blend of early internet search engine sleuthing, family tree string-connecting, and generational drama makes this a cozy yet richly compelling adventure with some good twists and turns and plenty of head-scratchers. Only complaints are that the stock library music gets a little old late in the game. One of my favorite games of 2025 otherwise.
