Had a great time playing this game. There is a bit of a learning curve at first and highly suggest playing the tutorial first, but once you get the hang of it the game is fun. After the first round the moves get quicker and more difficult which keeps the game challenging. Happy to get free and fun content. Thumbs up.
"The Professor Presents: #GotHandles" is barely a game, it's an advertising stunt for Mountain Dew. Taking this seriously as a game (don't, because it's just an advert), this is a really mediocre VR exclusive 1v1 basketball simulator. The art assets are not all that great considering Mountain Dew's marketing guys probably had a decent budget, so I guess they squandered all the money on long, boozey lunch breaks. Oh, to be an advertising executive. Sadly it's an industry I can't pursue, I graduated high school and don't have a criminal record. Anyway, graphics are average here. This seems to have been made a VR exclusive both in hopes of "generating a viral buzz" and to prevent any comparison with non-VR 3D games, a comparison that this game would fail very badly at. Developers must learn that while VR is great, if the only thing that makes the game great is the VR, then the game isn't great at all. Imagine a game so bad that it was made VR exclusive, in the hopes that would prevent people playing it and comparing it to professionally developed games. The VR thing is a real problem here and it shows how Mountain Dew really screwed up on this one. Valve's hardware survey shows just under 2% of gamers on Steam use VR. But the purpose of advertising is to reach as many people as possible with your message. So these advertising guys deliberately knocked 98% of their audience out from under them before they even left the gate. Talk about epic failure! The advertising jerks should probably stick to the boozey lunches and stop polluting Steam with ads and product placements.
The Professor Presents: #GotHandles is a free Basketball Dribbling game in VR brought to Steam by Mountain Dew. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. The Professor was funny and amazing ball handling. The control system to do ball handling is great idea. You are given visual cues where to place hands and what move to do for each part of a combo. The graphics looked good. But you cannot shoot the ball into the hoop. I could not play with my Index controllers, not sure why, maybe missing or control lag on my triggers. Try it, you might like it.
learned how to spider dribble like 20 times and i think i broke my back this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ dont download this its awful the professor taught me how to do everything i know today and here i am, i grew up to be lebron james overall would recommend this game
First review on this game. I played yet many basketball games for VR (Oniris, Hoops VR, Nothing but the Net and others with basketball minigames). Everyone lack in one or more sides hardly, VR basketball could be a thing but it isn't just now. The Professor etc. is a peculiar game than instead to focus on throws is oriented to do tricks and also dribbles. The mixed trigger + thumb for dribble it's a great idea for example. As other games anyway get just a part of the whole, but it's original and fresh. It's also free so it's very welcome, my thumb is fully up. That said, I was SO happy at first because it looked like a 1 on 1 basketball game (do anyone here is old enough to remember "Julius Erving and Larry Bird Go One on One" for C64? What a game!). So I was disappointed when I discovered than I can't throw or move, just copy tricks and without any "serious" goal than the score. It's fun but for a couple of minutes, not more.
Disclaimer, I do not play basketball recreationally, last time I played was highschool PE about 4 years ago, I understand the game but by no measure am I a basketball player in any respect IRL. That said, this is a neat *free* applet that goes over some basic basketball handling skills. "The professor" gives you instructions and you mimick them back to him, thats about it. I was hoping for a game where I at least finish up a cross over with a shot but this is all about the cross overs. Playing around with the ball physics is fun but once the "challenge" starts the game gives you pin points where the ball should be for certain moves. (A between the legs starts with your right hand holding the ball in front of your right side and passing it under yourself to your left hand.) During this challange the balls movements are pre-animated on a path which kinda ruins the whole experience for me. I feel like if they just kept the practice physics the game would have a steeper learning curve and thus be more enjoyable once the player nails the moves. The advertising for Mtn Dew is minimal, and its free so you really cant complain. Have someone over for a party who is interested in basketball? This will probably give them 15 min of fun without hurting your wallet more than your VR setup already has. Its only half a gig so im going to keep it in my library. If you are bored and want something to do for a bit this is an alright way to spend that time.
