Another really fascinating RPGMaker Dark fantasy title. Stacks up very favorably beside fear and hunger and Toymaker, well written and interesting world, with a main character that is very atypical, in that he's very much a character but not a sympathetic, or even empathetic one. Definitely worth checking out, with plenty of content for the asking price and a worthwhile experience. Very interested to see what the creator does next, be it in the same setting or a totally different one.
10/9
Nice snack of a game.
One of the best rpgs I've ever played. Incredible writing across the board, some of best I've seen in any video game. Combat is difficult but engaging, feeling like a puzzle at times where you'll to take full advantage of the moveset you have. This is really good stuff
A fun and well-written RPG. It had my interest the entire time I played. Highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys narrative experiences and surreal worlds. Just remember to save a lot because there are plenty of dangerous encounters and they can spring at you without warning.
和这个故事的主角共情了,我爱他。
The protagonist is distilled teenage angst, and the story is laughably dark and unnecessarily pessimistic at time, but the NPCs often point this out and the game seems self aware enough to make it bearable. Beyond that, the setting itself is interesting, and the developer put a lot of effort into fleshing everything out. You can walk up to a piece of trash on the ground, and the protagonist will monologue on how this trash is an allegory for existence. The writing is above average and overall well done. The creatures/monsters are also pretty unique. The combat system is also challenging enough to be difficult but not absurd. Sometimes it comes down to just reloading until you get good RNG, but that's inevitable for an RPG system like this. I do not regret the 19 hours I put into exploring the world created here.
The Pale City is a narrative focused rpg with a realistic take on sword combat. Graphically, the game is reminiscent of ARPG's from the late and early 2000's. Sporting 3d models for it's sprites, the game isn't beautiful, but nostalgic. The writing and prose of this game is fantastic. For a game with only 5 or so main areas, they have depth. NPC's will usually have something to say, whether it be hilarious or gloomy. As a player I didn't want to leave any stone unturned. There's not much I can complain about the story. The combat is the only thing that's half-backed. Vasek starts with a limited number of skills at his disposal. He will not learn any new skills throughout his journey, for he has learned all that he needs to get a job done. Combat in the pale city is more of a process of solving a puzzle if anything. What buffs to apply and what skill to use each turn feels crucial for combat. I think this part of gameplay is successful for The Pale City. The cracks only start to show later when you are put up against increasingly tougher opponents. It starts to feel more like "how can I exploit the games system" that thinking of a specific strategy. Essentially a lot of spamming parry. Despite my minor gripes The pale city an excellent experience that does not over stay it's welcome. If you are looking for a narrative based game that brakes the mold The Pale City is a good choice.
能品鉴该作是我的福分
I don't like dunking on small creators, but this game was in dire need of cleanup. Too many times did characters go on and on, too many times did cutscenes (especially towards the end) take control away from the player. I was recc'd this game from a forum which praised the prose, but it absolutely doesn't make up for the pacing. It's a shame
