We hated everything about this game
bad
In the current state of this game, I am not a fan and I cannot recommend it. The combat is terribly optimized. The idea is amazing but there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
not fun at all really. Feels less like a game and more like a tech demo. runs pretty bad and looks fine graphicly aside from the frequently visible blender default cubes and the low quality textures looking like chewed bubblegum. The melee combat is horrible and inconsistent enemies are essentially given one free hit no matter what and armour seems not to help. The average combat encounter consists of an enemy spawning from the ground underneath you grabbing you causing a cutscene consisting of your character stumbling or being grabbed somehow then your health bar depletes from the actions taken in the cutscene. then you get to play for three seconds you swing your sword directly at the enemy as close as can be and somehow it doesn't connect at all. then you get hit again as many times as you'd like to try melee. So you give up and just shoot the guy however three more of him either just spawned or have been on you the whole time and honestly they aren't really that difficult either you just get chipped down no matter what. the missions are either super short with a tiny map or just hard to navigate, which would not normally be a problem if there were anything to do at all anywhere but the main objective. The rewards for the mission seem to only be in currency that can be used to buy TWO more bandages per mission NOT per person TWO ever, or a bunch of torches that i have not seen a use for and three other items being a crucifix, map and medallion but again ONE of each per mission i also have not found a use for the crucifix or medallion The follower NPC that is integral to your success is super slow and hard to find. the guns and ranged weapons have scarce ammo which again would be fine if you didn't have to shoot everything because using a sword is impossible. Shooting also attracts more enemies which defeats the purpose of ever using a gun. Also the VOIP is awful and really quiet. honestly i find it criminal that this game is 30USD and the fact they are already making DLC for it despite it not being finished and i hope this isn't close to the end result when it is
This is a tentative recommend for one main reason - it is a wonderfully valiant, admirable and inspiring attempt to remove the 'slop' from 'friendslop'. This game is beautiful, atomospheric, original and downright evil and SO much love has been put into the look and feel of the game. I absolutely adore the grimdark early Spanish colonial setting and the sheer amount of mind bending bastardry the devs have put in to messing with their players. In a perfect world this would be the best multiplayer Extraction-lite out there. Unfortunately... it's undercooked - but not fatally so. The combat is 'ok'. It's never going to be Vermintide and it's never intended to be but they're slowly improving it - however you will still get screwed by some jank from time to time. The underlying systems of threat from the forest, sanity, game state etc. are quite difficult to understand - and I think they should be as it adds to the mystery but it can be immensely frustrating if you play it for the first time and just get wrecked because you just tried to use all the loud tools they gave you. It's also a little buggy, the latest 1.03 patch has a nearly guaranteed crash which sucks - and while I find the performance fine, others do not. It's also not a single player game. Ignore every person complaining that the single player sucks... it's totally irrelevant. This game shines when real humans get to go completely insane with their friends. Playing it solo is like drinking sugar free, caffeine free cola. Why bother? There is a ton of fun to be had here - just be prepared to put up with some jank that might be a dealbreaker for you. I just have to reward games made with love and passion when I see them and this is one of those. I so hope they can keep working on it and iron out all the kinks.
This game is has great visuals and character designs, though the controls are lacking, as well as the 'difficulty'. No amount of skill or dodging can prevent the monster cutscenes that absolutely ruin your run. You get a cutscene when a monster comes out of the ground, and while it only takes around 5 seconds at most, its still enough time for any space you've made from the other monsters to catch up. Cutscenes like the centipedes or killing an enemy are really cool! But the constant pausing gets incredibly annoying. Its not even that difficult, its faux difficulty disguised with intricate and well done cutscenes. Its still a really fun game, but these choices make it hard to enjoy.
Its a new twist on the co-op horror, I really think this is a great game despite some bugs but that still doesn't lower my rating. The negative reviews are only from bums.
