It's not a bad game. I think many people would enjoy it. I don't recommend it as a word of caution. Basically, for like 66% of the game, it's pretty good. But to me, it unravels the closer to the end you get. It sucks that you basically have to look up all the consequences and are basically locked in to the ending you want to get. Like a built-in guide. I played like 70% of the game without consequences shown, but the game rewards you with greyed out choices and zero freedom of action, basically. This really was killing my motivation to play. So I turned on the consequences, and it became a 'find the right path' simulator... The story is pretty good, but kind of inconsistent in writing and sometimes in plot, in my opinion. Engagement in the story was ruined for me by the absence of choice and multiple points in the story. I get it, on the one hand - there's a lot of limitations, but on the other, my character stops being my own. Like in
chapter 5 in Lotless path. The only way I could see (even though the options were greyed out) to reach an ok ending was to kill Sophia, which I couldn't do because of another, previous choice that was also locked in despite what I wanted...
Basically, by the end I feel like many people would get railroaded, and it just sucks. Also the last chapter didn't make a lot of sense to me. Some characters and lines are dropped
(you didn't deal with Otton while your walls were being scaled by the legion? really?)
, some just didn't make sense to me
(schism reaching its peak right at the time of the Revolt, sure)
. I enjoyed some of my time with it. I like Choose Your Own Adventure, and the art style here was good, but in the end, I'm pretty disappointed. Again, not a bad game. Just could be executed much better, IMO.
Very interesting narrative journey presented as a visual novel of sorts with an opened book background and theme.
While most things aren't voice acted, there are immersive and relevant sounds that play as certain events unfold. Pretty respectable way to induce immersion for this type of game. The story and settings are described with just the right amount of detail to keep your attention and have you interesting in seeing how things play out. In addition, there's a considerable amount of replayability given based on your decisions there are several actions you won't be able to take within each chapter because you don't have enough of one or more stats to even choose them. Overall, I consider this surprisingly well done and interesting for a 100% off discount game. 2026 has had quite a few good ones already this year. As I was playing, I couldn't help think of what it would be like if you could make decisions like this while playing something like Kingdom Come: Deliverance...
P.S. - Glad I wasn't born back then, I'd have gotten into so much trouble it's not even funny...
Maybe on a deep discount? I picked this up because I liked the demo for the sequel but this is a much rougher game in terms of writing and art and general presentation. Your "Life" as Sir Brante does not go beyond the age of 30 no matter what. I'm unsure which is worse, knowing the immediate effects of a choice but not being able to tell what that'll really mean, or being totally blind by turning off display consequences, which will probably end in chaos. My first playthrough ended with me burning down the entire world.
Choises DO matter, if you can only CHOOSE of course. I litreally cannot choose anything i want because you dont meet specific talens or perks.Whats the point of story games if i cant even choose how i desire.I am bored of choosing option ONLY game allows me to. So frusturating.
Beleş.
