You control a combat robot. Your task is to go through the maze, destroy all the enemy robots and get to the finish line. The passages to the other rooms of the maze are littered with stones. You need to use bombs to free the passages.
"The last door" is not to be confused with "The Last Door", a retro pixelcrap point and click adventure game for mobile phones. Which sounds awful. This is worse. What do you do in the game? This is a top down action/avoidance/shooter tech demo where you control a robot that shoots to destroy other robots, and you also use bombs to free passages blocked up with stones, but if you touch walls, stones or other robots, you explode. Just in the game. You don't explode for real, thankfully. All of this is implemented so laughably badly that it's frankly a miracle the developer managed to get the project to build, let alone create a developer account on Steam without injury. Of course you take the woeful quality into account and the development company origin in Russia and it makes a bit more sense... this was another lazy Russian cash grab, an attempt to scrape a few roubles out of Steam at the expense of gamers and the quality of the store. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics here are particularly awful, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a hard pass. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time. Note: Joke reviews As usual, with some of the worst games on Steam, all the comedians come out of the woodwork. The vast majority of the reviews for this game are joke reviews, mocking the game for just how bad it is. The comedians give us the usual "this game cured my cancer, saved my marriage, changed my life" story... sarcastic, but not useful if you want to know if the game is worth it. Because most of the reviews are humorous but also insincere and not reflective of the actual quality of the product, the positive review score for this game should be taken with a grain of salt.
