very cool game. it's a walking sim so it's not for everyone. I really did like the game allthough it's did surprise me how the devs let the game leave the studios in its current state. For one, for most of the time you spend talking to someone the dialouge kept cutting mid sentence and so you really had to read the subtitles cuz the characters wouldnt say the full line most of the time. And the second thing i want to add is that the world(especially the ground) would not load properly, i do not mean that there wasnt any ground but... i dont know how to explain it, you'd have to see for yourself. Apparently its a bug that fixes it self if you restart your game, but who wants to do that everytime the bug occurs. It just ruins the immerchen for me, nothing more. I'd give the game a solid 7/10 all things considered, its a good game with a good story.
Expérience immersive très cool. Ambiance réussie. Trame narratives excellente.
A Science Fiction Gem
The Invincible is a relatively short, narrative focused science fiction game. It is based on and acts as a prequel to the 1964 novel of the same name by Stanisław Lem. It tells the story of Dr. Yasna, an astrobiologist who becomes stranded on a strange planet. Throughout her journey across the planet, she learns of the planet's strange properties and slowly uncovers its mysteries. In terms of gameplay, The Invincible is essentially a walking simulator with some interaction with the world around you and some navigational aspects. The gameplay is very clearly not the focus and takes a back seat to the story. A fair comparison in this regard would be SOMA on Safe Mode, as you mainly interact with the world around you by turning dials or pressing buttons. There is some level of exploration and agency on the player's side, though, which does make the game more engaging. The only technical issue I had throughout my playthrough was a noticeable drop in performance nearing the latter half of the game. This might be related to me running the game on Linux, though. The biggest strength of the game, however, is its story, world building, and writing. S. Lem is generally considered one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time, and that quality shines through in the game. The entire premise and the greater mystery surrounding the planet are jaw droppingly well written. All parts of the story that differ from the novel are on par with the parts that don't, forming a very cohesive experience. It includes branching story paths, so it retains replay value and gives the player control over the world and its development. If you are at all interested in science fiction or mystery and are open to fairly linear story games without many action sequences, then I would recommend you give The Invincible a try. Novel quality sci fi writing with impressive visuals and game design is simply amazing.
mostly a walking sim. interesting story and decent pacing but some of the endings leave a bit to be desired
Great immersion and graphics. Story is good as well. 8.5/10
