it's a great game with some very interesting ideas. a deep walking simulator
In a world where Firewatch exists and costs 10$ less, it's difficult for me to recommend The Invincible at full price. That said, since i got it for only 3$ (-90%) and the game experience wasn't bad, i'm leaving a positive review. Just like Firewatch, this game is a 100% narrated walking simulator. There is no "gameplay" per se, and it's very linear. So i'm reviewing The Invincible only based on the story and the overall atmosphere/visuals. First, the story : I think it was ... fine. I like the sci-fi setting, but when it comes to the story development/pacing, i don't think it was great. There were a couple of moments where i almost put the game down because it felt so sluggish and slow, which is a bit weird as the story actually has quite a lot going on if you think about it. I only stuck with it because i knew it would be over soon, until finally i reached one of the endings. Talking about endings, i didn't check the other ones, but i also felt that the switch to credits was quite abrupt. It literally went like "Pick your ending => wait 20 seconds => credits". No explanation on why we did what we did, how are other characters doing, what came out of this expedition, etc ... Then, visuals : Also just "fine" in my opinion. Sure, there are a few cool scenic moments, but that's about it. The planet looks pretty much the same everywhere, the textures are not great, and there's this weird grainy filter that for whatever reason a lot of recent games seem to be using (but to me it just looks like it's there to hide artifacts and/or aliasing issues from afar). So, my final verdict for The Invincible would be a 6/10. It's not bad, but i'm glad i got it at such a good price. I would have been very disappointed, had i paid the full 30$.
Very restricted movement. Dialogue would go faster if I just read the book.

I was eyeing this game for a little over two years, really unsure about it. I finally gave in with a sale. It's basically a Detroit Become Human-like game, where it's mostly walking and doing simple interactions, which I don't mind, as I am not puzzle-brained and wasn't looking for something complex. If you're looking for puzzles and gameplay, this won't be for you. This is very much a walking and listening-to-dialogue simulator, which is always something that I don't mind and is a type of game I really enjoy playing after work. I think the voice acting is pretty good, and I love the art direction and soundtrack. The slightly-distorted synth tracks really fit the atmosphere, I feel like. I'm surprised I never heard of the author that wrote the original story, but I'm really glad they include a comic in the game as you progress through the game. A few criticisms about the game that I have... The subtitles don't match the dialogue sometimes, which is a pet-peeve of mine, and at about the three hour mark I was starting to get a little bored and ready for it to end. The story really slowed down at that section, but then something interesting happens later and it picks back up again. Also wish they developed or had you interact with the crew members more. Just feels like you barely get to know them. Some of the cutscene parts, where it is focused on listening to dialogue, especially near the end, go on for a bit too long, but there is an option to skip dialogue and move to the next line. Also felt like the ending, at least the one I got, was pretty sudden and could have explained more about what happens at the end, but other than that, not a bad game and don't regret playing it. It was something chill and easy to play.
