The Inheritance of Crimson Manor: An Intriguing Investigation in Ominous Victorian Mansion
The Crimson Manor has much to peruse, namely the house's multiple floors (with extensive layouts) and the numerous interactive objects and documents within. I love the eerie, foreboding atmosphere of the massive late-19th-century mansion, which comes together without jump-scares or quick-time events. I particularly like the attention to the Victorian era. Serialized horror literature--popular in 19th century--is tucked away all about the house. Though you can only read the front pages, the cover-art emulates illustrations made by a printmaking process of the period and the titles speak to the macabre. There's also artwork and furnishings befitting the game's turn of the century setting. Ambient sound, which makes you think you're not alone in the house(!), complements the visual environment. Beyond the game's compelling aura are its enjoyable puzzles that exploit a variety of mechanics. As most of the puzzles require multiple steps to solve, the player must explore to gather clues that are relevant to puzzles encountered later in the game. Game-play does have some hiccups. The controller isn't fully mapped or is simply bugged. For example, you can't use the controller to scroll through the map, notebook, and inventory like you can with ease using the keyboard and mouse. And pressing RS doesn't give you a hint as directed, rather hints are triggered by pressing LS. I also found some puzzles were easier to interact with when using the keyboard and mouse. Another problem is that a number of texts have serious English grammatical errors that made comprehension needlessly difficult, so much so that by the end of the game I stopped reading them closely. Normally, I would overlook the occasional inaccuracy, but players may get confused in Crimson Manor when they need to read and understand a text to solve a puzzle. Despite the minor issues with controls and localization, I thoroughly enjoyed the game's atmosphere and puzzles.
Sadly I can not remember much of this game. But from what I remember it was solid and worked. So if you are in the mood for a puzzle escape room style game. Get it. hey it is better that I remember little about a game than that I remember I was annoyed by one little thing. ;) Score: 6/9
Bon jeu malheureusement bloqué par un bug impossible de prendre la clé sous le globe :(
Sehr schönes Spiel und hat mich zeit vertreiben gelohnt und Spass gemacht
Entretenido, buena atmosfera, interesante historia.
Alright enough, but clunky controls. After finishing it with some hints (because some things you merely have to tinker with for so long to really know that you are on the right track at all), the end felt interesting, but not very satisfying. The big mystery is kept until the very end, then revealed, you make a "choice" for cutscene and credits roll, all within one minute. No time to let anything sink in.
One of the best escape room games I've ever played. Wish I could replay it for the first time.
