The Great Exhibition of 1851 in VR

The Great Exhibition of 1851 von Hooked Wit ist ein Besuch der Weltausstellung von 1851. Leider fühlt sich das Programm auch nach 1851 an. Prinzipiell geht es in solchen Programmen ja um Bildung. Damit Wissen interessant vermittelt werden kann, sind entsprechende Präsentationen nötig. The Great Exnibition versagt leider völlig in der Präsentation. Es wird viel Wissenswertes über Audioeinspieler und Text- und Bildtafeln vermittelt, aber schon hier versagt das Programm. Die Audios starten plötzlich und unvermittelt, man kann sie auch nicht ein oder ausschalten. Läuft ein längeres Audio einmal, kann es passieren, dass es sich mit dem nächsten überlappt und der Ton so langsam zu einer Kakophonie wird. Der Soundloop im Crystal Palace ist auch grauenhaft und viel zu kurz. Auf dem Ausstellungsgelände und im Gebäude bewegen wir uns per Teleport und Snapturn, es gibt keine weiteren Optionen. Grafik- und Audioeinstellungen fehlen auch. Die Grafik ist für ein Programm dieser Art leider auch nicht erwähnenswert. Die meisten Exponate existieren nur als 2D Bilder. The audios start suddenly and abruptly, and you can't switch them on or off. Once a longer audio has started, it can overlap with the next one and the sound slowly becomes a cacophony. The sound loop in the Crystal Palace is also horrible and far too short. We move around the exhibition grounds and the building using teleport and snapturn, there are no other options. Graphics and audio settings are also missing. Unfortunately, the graphics are also not worth mentioning for a program of this type. Most of the exhibits only exist as 2D images. The few 3D sculptures are not in high resolution and there are no interactions. In the almost empty exhibition building, in addition to the sculptures, we can also look at some machines and the like, but these are really not worth mentioning. The buildings are brightly colored and have only minimal textures, the whole area looks bizarre and extinct. This may all be down to the fact that The Great Exhibition of 1851 is still a work in progress, but what we're presented with now doesn't bode well for a satisfying result. The Great Exhibition of 1851 in VR is a free VR experience that recreates The Great Exhibition ran from May to October 1851 in London's Hyde Park, in a temporary building known as the Crystal Palace. Six million visitors passed through the turnstiles, to view over 100,000 individual exhibits. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok, was understandable. Movement mode is teleport. Can also use monitor with keyboard / mouse. Maybe try this for free, if you like history.

A little barebones as of writing but worth checking out since it already has a few cool things. I wouldn't even mind paying for a full experience, that's how interesting it is. Impressive work and something I'd love to see more. If you enjoy history and/or museums you will also enjoy this. Hoping the dev will continue and best of luck in his lengthy endeavour.

what a great experience, which is sure to get even better as more is added. I would still be in there clicking on everything but I have to go to work, Dont be off put by the graphics as its more about what is in there and what can be in the future.

I have been watching this project on the Unity Forum for at least a Year. Amazing work, to put so much resources and reconstruction effort of something that has been once burned down. PC controls require some additional work. I would eliminate completely need to hold right click, to rotate the camera. Let it be free rotation.
