The word PEAK if it was a game
Khazan is a Dark Souls / Nioh rip-off and I bought it as such knowingly. There are souls and bonfires, respawning enemies and bosses, also poison swamps and tight ledges. It was nice to feel the familiar souls thrill again, at least through the initial levels… But then I realized Khazan probably has the most drab, uninspired, by the numbers world I’ve even experienced. I don’t say Khazan devs used AI but the game really feels like someone prompted “Ok Claude vibe-code me a fantasy game but don’t spend too much tokens” – so you trudge through the levels and there are caves, a dilapidated village, a temple, spider caves, a dilapidated town, another set of caves and so on, all in muted, washed-out colors, convoluted just for the sake of it, and populated with the same handful of enemies like soldiers, dogs, spiders and the dragon-kin. You fight these basic monsters with just three weapons; there is also a skill three with upgrades and combos but I played for 18 hours and killed half of the game’s bosses using just a spear and three buttons (light attack, dodge, parry) so that’s for the combat complexity. To add insult to injury, the game assets are reused from mission to mission and then recycled again for the side missions, so that all the (slight) variations on a theme become even more blatant. The story failed to engage me at all, NPCs are terrible, the anime art style that might be interesting for some only shows in cutscenes and adds no substance. Bosses are OK-ish I guess but that's a very little saving grace. Khazan is a hugely overrated pastiche of far superior titles and I wouldn’t recommend it even to the most die-hard uncritical fans of the genre.
TL;DR You love parrying? You lika a challange? PLAY THIS GAME, the ultimate tough but fair! It's on the harder side, but it feels so good when you become good at it... This is absolute PEAK in terms of combat and boss quality. Elden Ring is a "whole package", it has story, exploration, combat, build variety, but strictly in terms of HOW GOOD THE COMBAT FEELS, Khazan is hands down one of the best ones out there (I can compare it to Sekiro, Lies of P, Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong, Stellar Blade etc.). Let's start with CONS: the game has rather linear levels and a-ok story (voiced by the same actor who played Verso in Expedition 33); visuals have good art direction and are stylized. It's decent, sometimes they re-use a map layout for a shorter mission; some levels/missions are more of a boss-rush. Those are the weakest points, honestly. Levels, visuals, story, a decent 7/10. It exists, fulfills it roles, but it's not why are here... What are the PROs? The combat feels amazing. Everything is smooth, responsive, it just feels good. All attacks are fast but well telegraphed, you can intuit what to do. You can parry almost everything, there are very few grabs and attack that do status effects that you have to dodge, but you will figure it out immediately.. Alternatively, you can dodge everything and not parry anything. You have 3 types of weapons/playstyles and the tree skills can accommodate your preferences. The bosses are the PINNACLE OF A FAIR FIGHT. The first phase teaches you a limited moveset of a boss, expanded in the second phase. The bosses are TOUGH but FAIR, all hits register properly, no problems with camera, timings are good (they are not overdoing delayed attacks/roll catching), everything is telegraphed, CLEAN, and IT FEELS O SO GOOD... The enemies do not one-shot you, no AOE status effect BS, everything is fair. And it feels so good, that you know that you can stand your ground and parry EVERYTHING and the boss won't be able to hurt you. It's hard to justify a feeling, but IMO it's even better than LIES OF P. In Lies of P you rely strongly on parrying, but in Khazan you can parry and dodge; you have good control over what is going on during the fight. You are in control of whatever the games throws at you... BIGGEST ISSUE- DIFFICULTY The biggest problem is the SKILL REQUIRED to play it. If you want to beat it on the intended difficulty, you have to hit more than 70-80% of perfect parries. If you're not hitting that, you either have to lower the difficulty and/or use summons, otherwise the game becomes borderline unplayable. People say, that BOSSES HAVE A LOT OF HP. It's true, but (1) if you hit those brink guards/parries you manage your stamina [they use A LOT LESS stamina] and you can use (2) combos and (3) skills, and perfect parries allow you to break poise/stamina and use (4) brutal attacks. IF YOU CAN ONLY CHIP AWAY AT BOSSES WITH R1 SPAM YOU WILL HAVE A BAD TIME. You have to manage your stamina, do stamina damage by brink guards, and use combos, skills, brutal attacks. Bosses become fun and managable if you play the game the right way. It the ultimate TOUGH but FAIR.
Beautiful game. Amazing art style Combat feels amazing. Super responsive. You feel like you’re driving nails into the enemy with every attack. The story so far is fun and the boss fights are cinema.
very boring and poorly design levels in-between bosses. bosses mid except first.
Lies of P, Nioh, Wo Long или Elden Ring, то The First Berserker: Khazan определённо стоит попробовать. Очень надеюсь, что разработчики продолжат развивать эту серию, потому что потенциал у неё огромный.
По сравнению с секиро,это полное дерьмо,на сложности эксперт ты наносишь боссу залупу,а он тебе пол столба
It was a great experience! Combat is one of the best. Amazing soundtrack.
A top-tier Soulslike experience. Khazan: The First Berserker delivers an incredible art style, both in its cutscenes and in the beautifully designed armor sets and weapons. The UI is clean, and the progression system is straightforward and easy to follow. Combat feels exceptionally good. The game features unique and memorable bosses, and the ability to grind bosses and farm armor sets adds a satisfying layer of replayability. The story is genuinely good, with a particularly strong ending. It is also a fantastic game for achievement hunters and completionists — you can get 100% completion in around 40 hours without needing multiple playthroughs. There are a few minor downsides. Even the hardest difficulty available from the start of the game may feel too easy for experienced Soulslike players. (at least with the Greatsword :D) Many enemies are reused throughout the game, although this fits surprisingly well within the game's design. The game also only offers three weapon types, and the skill trees are relatively small. The final 10–20 levels feel less rewarding, as there is very little left to meaningfully change or improve in your build. Some levels and side missions also feel somewhat annoying, as they often take place in areas that have already been completed during main missions. However, they are entirely optional. Despite these flaws, Khazan: The First Berserker is a must-play for every Soulslike fan!
