Can't wait to see more of this game. Absolute gem in the rough! In the current version expect to get you a** handed to you. Managed to get to room 31 on my longest run, and i'm pretty confident that there is very few people out there that could top that. looking forward to this games future!
Great game for the price. Once it get's polished up and gets a little more monster variety, will easily be worth double. The foundation of the game is very fun, has good feeling controls and snappy-ness. Definitely a solid base version that can only get better. Great visuals, sceneries and particle effects yet runs smooth despite this. Very readable and enemies telegraph attacks well so it feels fair if you get hit. UI improvements, QoL features, and monster variety would be the things that could be improved.
I'm going to preface this with a "THIS IS EARLY ACCESS" warning (It was released on the 13th of May, so VERY new) This is a very fun "pick up for a round or two" game, and I was sucked in for a good 2 hours going run after run. I love the art style, I've always been a sucker for low poly, particle effects and cool lighting, and sure enough this game has that. At the moment there only seems to be 2 types of dungeon; the wood floor and the stone floor dungeons. In future I would hope to see some more variety with the levels, and a better sense of progression via cues from the environment, but for a game that has only just released, from a solo developer, it's a cute and spooky style that I really dig. The procedural generation does a lot to offset this however, and I never truly feel like "I've seen this before" as the snaking corridors and open areas all blend to make every run feel unique. The gameplay is more of the same story, really satisfying. The movement is direct, dodging feels super snappy, and enemies are really easy to distinguish with easy to projectiles and attack animations. This means you never feel as if the game has screwed you over when you get hit, it's all down to your skill. At present there are a few 'classes' of enemies, with several variations, modified attacks and additional armour to keep things feeling fresh and challenging as you progress deeper through the dungeons of Algoduul! Though it can get very tense when the game decides to spawn you next to 20 enemies just waiting for you to move. I keep trying to run and I end up running into more of them! The dodging feels great, especially since you can shove enemies and furniture with it! You can actually hurt them by doing this and allows for some great gameplay trying to yeet the explodey bois into a crowd for maximum collateral. Some of the abilities you can get are really cool, and the idea of an ability "consuming" some of your max HP really makes your thought processes in those fast-paced, fight or flight situations carry more weight. "Do I use this ability to give myself some breathing room? Knowing that in the long run it's going to put me at a disadvantage? Some things I'd like to see added is more variety in general, with the environment, enemies and abilities, as after a few hours of playing you tend to do the same thing against the same foes. And while it's actually surprisingly fun to play again and again, it would be nice to have that further progression to turn this from a fun little time passer, into a real fleshed out VIDYA GAEM Overall this is a really promising start for a dungeon crawler, and I hope to see it updated as time passes into a feature rich time sink!
Very Enjoyable Game! I ended up favouring a few abilities too much to the point that I would reset trying to get either of them, I am very excited to see the path this game will take when it comes to the implementation of features and the upgrades of current features. :) 100% worth the price and then some.
