Quite boring. Quite bad. Graphics are pretty decent, but on my RTX 2070, i7 9750, 32GB RAM & WIN 10, this game just jumps & skips in many areas, the graphics are stretching & it looks strange. Other than that however, it doesn't seem like there's much to do.
The Curious Study of Dr. Blackwood: A VR Tech Demo is a free VR experience. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. I would like to see a game using all of what i seen in this demo. Maybe needs some attention to the body that you have attached to your head. Bending down to pick up something on the floor made your headset move through the visible body. The full Game need full body tracking enabled. Has plenty of objects to interact with. I didn't see how to sit in a chair without the body bending out of shape. Try this for good free VR experience.
Its a vr demo, a single room with paintings that reveal spooky hidden messages when approached with a certain light. It has a mini game, and you can pick up a bunch of stuff, but other than lighting candles different colors and the secret messages, its a short slightly spooky experience. It felt a bit outdated, but the graphics are really nice and the athmosphere is well done. Its free, so, if you want a dark spooky room to relax, this might be it.
Игра «The Curious Study of Dr. Blackwood: A VR Tech Demo» предлагает захватывающее погружение в виртуальную лабораторию, где игрок исследует загадочные эксперименты.
Dr.Blackwoodon HP Reverb G2 I found this review that made me discover The Lab and that made me realise that the best games come from the big software or hardware manufacturers. https://www.tiiips.com/m/tiiips/home?action=listReviews&reviewID=12928&oID=25925 I have downloaded at least two dozen free games that I have thrown in the bin for poor quality. In my opinion the best are these recommended by this review: The Lab NVIDIA VR Funhouse The Curious Study of Dr.Blackwood Can you suggest any other? Thank you all.
"The Curious Study of Dr. Blackwood: A VR Tech Demo" is, as the developers blatantly admit, not a full proper game. But they published it anyway, because I guess what's good for the developers ego is much more important than delivering full, high quality games to gamers. Gamers don't matter, only developers? Well, gamers are the ones who write the reviews. And we do care about games that are made to be games for gamers. What do you do in the game? Nothing... really. Because it's barely a game, and is more of a "sandbox" tech demo, all you do is look around and poke around and maybe find a couple of easter eggs. This game looks a lot better visually than the actual gameplay. It could be the developer purchased high-end assets (no proof of that), or somehow managed to create great-looking assets while delivering a mediocre game, in this case it could be either... but there's no hard proof this is an asset flip. But as always, ethics of asset flipping aside (whether this is one or not), what matters is the quality of the game, and this has all the same low qualities that we expect from asset flip shovelware. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. This game is fairly dated at 7 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Let's talk about price and the value this represents for us gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 7 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
очень красочно
Even though this tech demo is quite old now, it's still quite pretty. There isn't a lot to do besides have a nose around and listen to some developer voice clips where they are getting very excited about the possibilities of VR. The interactions haven't aged too badly compared to other older tech demos and experiences but it's definitely just something to put on, look around and then forget about again. It's free and won't take up much of your time so why not, but equally, you aren't missing out on anything mind-blowing if you decide to skip it.
