This game should be called "Fixed Costs Simulator." You spend a couple days earning ten grand, so you get excited that you might be able to afford one of the overpriced licenses to sell a new plushie or something... but nope. You open your phone and see a bill for $5000 in rent and $4000 in wages. And thats not like a once a month cost... that is every week!!! You spend 70% of your income on paying bills.... fine, I guess that isn't too far of a stretch from reality. Maybe I can just unlock some cool new items to sell for a higher profit! HA! Good luck with that. You have to spend another $5000 just for the license to sell a stuffed Pokechud toy. And that Pokechud only has a profit margin of about $12... so you need to sell over 400 of them just to break even on the cost of the license to sell it!!!! Every single product or decoration you want for your shop is gated by a massive "license fee." You want to put up a poster? That'll be $1000 please. Oh you want a new air freshener?! $5000!!! I could never afford to make my shop look nice or unique. Long story short... at no point in my first 30 hours of this game was I able to actually feel excited about earning money or running my business. I think the game is balanced around the fact that there is a very small non-zero chance that you can find a shiny card worth like $10000 when you open card packs. The problem is that for those of us that don't want to just rip card packs for 40 hours strait, or just get unlucky, this is a MUCH different and more grindy game. Maybe if I had pulled one of those shiny cards in my first thousand packs, I would have been able to afford some cool unlocks and decor... but since I didn't, "It's gonna be a no from me, dawg."
It's a very addicting game for how ugly it is. It's really fun to do the daily grind of stocking and selling. There's a large ceiling of progression so it keeps me going. It IS an ugly ass game though, the NPC's look so bad and their animations are so stupid. There's this stink mechanic too where some of the NPC's can be smelly and you have to put these bulky air filters right in the doorway making your ugly store looking even worse while blocking your path to your shipments when you go in and out of the store. Some shelves look good, some look like untextured blocks. I really thought since this game had a lot of success the creator would have made an attempt to make things like the starting shelves look better. All the art feels bootleg and fake and it's hard to give a ♥♥♥♥ about the cards you sell other than the price tag on them, so this is essentially just an first person clicker game where the goal is to make the money number go up, and i still gotta say... money number go up is a helluva drug. This hideous game full of nothing slop art is still very fun.
https://youtu.be/abv7X3n07t0
I fell in love with this game very quickly. You have your own shop where you sell and open cards. For true nerd it is dream.
Do I enjoy the game? Kinda…Do I think that it’s lazy? also yes. This game has made enough money that there should be no reason for using cheap assets for the npcs or the world for that matter. A lot of games were able to imitate or straight up copy this game because at its core it’s an asset flip that had a good idea and never built on it. I wish the developers would take some pride in their work and show more creativity. This game could have been something greater but I can’t fault anyone for reaching their limits. At the end of the day this game is a success but a miserable failure at the same time. At the end of the day I’ve got my moneys worth.
As sims go, it's alright. The card mechanic is nice, definitely satisfies that feeling of getting new cards for a bit. But sadly it gets stale fast; by the time you have the second card packs unlocked, each card is just a number, and there's no game associated with it. That alone is fine; it's a simulator after all, not an actual TCG (yet). But the simulator part is crazy boring, repetitive, and grindy. Just day after day of stocking and handling check-outs. Licenses for each new thing to sell are crazy expensive, just to have an item that might have a slightly different profit margin - nothing special about them. I've just unlocked epic packs in my playthrough - level 16 shop, have done a little bit of everything, and I just don't see an end to the repetitive monotony in sight.
Basically you're this little card shop character and you go around getting stuff done tbh. I think the little card fella's are pretty neat and a quirky little characters.
Genuinely a terrible game all around. This is either a classic asset flip of some persuasion, or this "OPNeon Games" "developer" goes by several monikers on Steam because this game is almost identical to every other "(Name) Shop Simulator" on Steam right now. I've played this one and Supercar Simulator, which are allegedly from two different devs, and they are the SAME game. Same framework, same "gameplay", same NPC's, you name it. Even down to putting the name of your business on the building. So either it's an asset flip using this same "shop sim" framework, or this is one developer releasing the same game engine a million times under different names to give the illusion that there's a cottage industry here. Watch the trailers for the other games and you'll see what I mean. It's just like all the "clean up the mess at the (place)" games flooding the store right now. The only reason this game is "Overwhelmingly Positive" and "went viral" is because the developer lucked out; there is a third-party mod for this game that replaces all of the non-copyright-infringing AI slop cards with actual real Pokemon cards so you can rip open packs of "authentic" cards and faun over getting your first edition Base Set Charizard or whatever because let's face it you'll never get to experience that rush IRL. I don't think this was an intended outcome by the developer, they just sort of lucked into this happening to them by the law of probability. They should not have been rewarded so handsomely for it though because this game is crap, but they've sold at least 33K copies of this trash at $15 a pop and I advise you not to do the math on how much profit that is because it will just make you very upset. This "game" plays like an alpha, like it's nowhere near a complete project. Don't listen to the stupid FOMO machine on TikTok or whatever, this game is utter trash and so are all of its copies.
