I love being able to prebuild a deck that cycles. Prebuilt decks in many games are one and done, whereas games like Dominion cycle but you build the deck as you go. I also enjoy the creativity of the characters and the problem solving required to beat battles!
I've been given this for free by the dev's but let me juts quickly go over what this game is: It's a rougelike card game with simple mechanics, currently a limited amount of cards (that are all given to you in the beginning) and a very simplistic looking encounters. The way it looks and the way it acts are very different though: Up to every 3rd encounter in the game you can get away with using most cards in the deck the way you see fit, encounters past that require you to learn how to properly manage your skill and mana points, if you don't you'll be swarmed by monsters and pretty much obliterated within a few turns. People expecting a simple "seamless" card game that doesn't require allot of thought should go back to playing solitaire, if you want a very good early access rougelike that you can play with one hand and actually makes you think then this is your game. I hope the developers will continue to work and improve on this game, the potential is really there for this to be something big.
Excelent game! Really like it! My playtime does not reflect how much I actually played of it as my internet was down for the majority of the time I played it. It is an original idea and I recommend you give it a try a lot!
Tutorial is garbage that doesn't even explain how to play the game. In the fight, allies appeared randomly and I don't know why. Through trial-and-error I figured out how to attack and use cards, but then could not complete the tutorial because my allies would not attack the front line of foes, and I could not End Turn. I had to QTD. This game in it's current state is half-baked at best and is nowhere near ready for release even to EA. Nothing makes sense, nothing is sufficiently explained, and it plays slow AF. I show 2.5 hours of game play, but I only played it twice for a total of maybe 15 minutes. Once when I first bought it, and again a few days ago. I idled in the background for the rest of the time in case the game ever gets cards.
Gameplay is a little flat. Doesn't feel like choices matter.
Currently disappointed, more against Steam This game is fully bugged, impossible to play the campaign. Even the tutorial fails at step 3. This game is clearly not finished, it is said to be in early access, but in fact it is dead since 2020. Perhaps are there funest causes to that, don't know, but Steam should just stop selling this game And it's not the first time it happens Buying a game that does not worth is annoying, but buying a game that is not a game, it's clearly a fraud
I'm torn when it comes to recommending this game, as despite it being very fun card game, the game lacks the depth that I normally expect in a card game. There is definitely a lot of potential in this game, which is why I am giving it a positive rating, but after finishing a certain runs, they all start to feel samey, The game does a lot of stuff well, the whole theme they were going for is great, each of the current classes (these being Cleric, Warrior, Rogue, and Wizard) all feel unique and bring something special to the table, and overall the game encourages experimentation by providing all the cards unlocked at the beginning, which is something I'll touch up on later on. Overall the core gameplay is great and after playing the game for a bit after taking a 4-5 month break (I've owned the game since early December) from it, I constantly wanted to try out new combinations to find out what worked best and what was more of a pipe dream. Combat is also enjoyable as every enemy's move is telegraphed with a couple exceptions in the later stages. Outside of the core gameplay is where this game starts to fall short in my opinion. There is a clear lack of polish, as one would expect from most early access games, but for this game it can feel a bit jarring. For example, each 'run' has 6 battles, all of which have the same backdrop, resulting in runs starting to feel similar to each other if you use the same/similar deck consecutively. Another issue the game has is a lack incentives. There is no reward for finishing a run aside from bragging rights, which is not worth much. This ties back to having all the cards unlocked at the beginning, which is great for newcomers, but hurts long term playability. As much fun as it is optimize decks to perform absurdly well, it does eventually become bland. On a completely different note, there's some cards that feel a bit overtuned cough Armageddon cough, but that is a numbers thing that can be tuned fairly easily. Overall, this game has potential, and I'm excited for future content. However I am also a sucker for card games (and got the game for free), therefore I am somewhat biased. There are a few other things that might bother people, such as the music or the art, but the music was fine and I'm a fan of the pixel art. If your interested in card games, I'd recommend checking this game out.
Fun to mess around in and figure out what strategies worked, I just started playing and then 4 hours had passed the first time I played it.
It's a good game. The learing curve is balanced even tho you gonna die a lot in the beginning. I like how you can download the decks other player created. In such games you often have to pic all the cards if you want to play with an deck you saw online. But in Tales of the Deck you can just chose it. I like the Action/Mp system because it gives you an incentive to think how you gonna play a turn before you actually do it. I can positively recomend it, the devs are activly developing it, and always posting updates on their Discord: https://discord.gg/ECmQ8Jn You can also visit it to give them feedback, and but reports. There is also an active community there. So all in all i can recomend this game, and im eager to see further development.
