It's a great story as far as I'm concerned, but the game lacks in two crucial aspects: plot development which is fine given the fact that it's still on chapter one and will be fixed whenever later chapters are released, BUT also a noticeable lack of engaging gameplay. This is a huge flaw that I want to address before more of the game is released, because as it currently sits the most interesting part of the core gameplay is when you have to find four sticks. Otherwise, it's purely just walking around, flavor text, and cutscenes. While the game gathers interest with it's story, it's still a game at the end of the day, and having minigames and whatnot doesn't help the fact that the core gameplay loop is mostly absent as of the first chapter. I don't want to be so critical of a project that clearly comes from a place of passion and talent/skill for storytelling along with other aspects, but this is a game at the end of the day and if it goes unaddressed it will undermine the rest of the project. People play games to have fun first, and admire the artistry and story second. Please, let me get in touch with the development side because I want to help this game succeed if possible because it has a lot of potential that would go to waste if the gameplay just isn't there. And the reason I don't count the minigames towards the core gameplay loop is because of the obvious separation from the two. The minigames do not interact with the outside world in any capacity, and completing them does nothing more than reward you with achievements, thus making them completely optional and a completely separate experience from the main game. Maybe I'll be proved wrong and the rest of the game has a good core gameplay loop, but as it sits and from what I experienced it tries to be a story first and a game basically not at all, which undermines what the medium of video games are based upon. Again, let me playtest and/or help with gameplay development, and I'll try and help out the best I can. Whenever one of those two things happens, I'll be happy to flip my rating, but while the rest is still unreleased it won't be too late to fix some things to make it better.

For a first chapter, this is very good! It's clear that it's very indie, the background pixel art was really nice but definetly could've used some extra details. That what I'm assuming was a dream sequence with sky was weird and trippy but sorta in a good way? I like how the story flows but hate that ending so much, only because I want more. The characters pixel art definitely could've been improved upon, especially the faces which are literally just || . || the whole time, would definitely be cool if the faces changed depending on what the characters are feeling, since during that funeral all I saw was || . || For some reason at the very start of the game the pixel art of the house was absolute trash, then all of a sudden when you leave the house it becomes a lot less eye straining and pretty.
