Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon

2/1 I really, really enjoyed this game- I devoured it quickly and greedily, and then it was over.

Hours at review is roughly the amount of time it takes to complete the story with most side quests. I think this game handles a lot of nuanced topics in a way that presents pros and cons in every scenario. Ultimately, it is a story-rich RPG that gives the player control over a "complex political situation" (as the game will say). You meet tons of characters who have their own perspectives, ambitions, and values that you must weigh against each other throughout the entire game. Unlike a lot of similar RPGs, it is full of choices. Not dissimilar to how Fallout New Vegas gives the player a ton of agency to shape how the ending plays out. I didn't experiment with many builds, but the game offers a robust set of choices. Magic archer, stealth assassin, mage, good ol' warrior, something in between? It's all available. The music is interesting. While perhaps not of the highest production quality, the overall instrumentation and themes are really appealing and help sell the environments. I'm quite pleased. I got this game on sale, but if I knew what it really was I would've easily paid full price. If it looks like the type of game you normally like, you'll love it.

Great RPG game in the vein of Avowed and Outer Worlds! Took me about 90 hours to do everything including the DLC. You get to explore a few open world hubs (nothing crazy like fallout or elder scroll) with dungeons and side quests. I love the arthurian legend theme, [spoiler] meeting druids, and the knights of the round tables [/spoiler] and that [spoiler] Arthur is kinda like Keanu's Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077 in this game, the legend that lives within you and you get to talk to him from time to time to see his take on events [/spoiler]. I played a 2H melee build and the gameplay was pretty satisfying. However late game I was one-shotting pretty much everything and even the bosses were a cakewalk which took the fun out of it a little. You can tell the budget is not nearly as high as games like Avowed, since the maps aren't as big and a lot of dungeons are pretty small.

Anyone who loves RPG's should check this one out, It's a refreshing take on sword and fantasy games. Love how indie games like this can run with the giants like bethesda and obsedian, it may lack polishing but its still a gem in my books, it retro graphics with a modern twist. 100% NOT a skyrim clone! May have things in common with Elder Scrolls but this game hits different and I would highly recommend this to any RPG dork!
