💀💀Unless you plan to play for at least 100 hours, you won’t need any DLC at all, so we STRONGLY RECOMMEND against purchasing it.💀💀
(The DLC features stages that are orders of magnitude more difficult than those in the main game, so buying it before you’ve mastered the main game is a complete waste of money.
Also, since Steam supports refunds, if you accidentally purchase it, We strongly recommend requesting a refund as soon as possible.
The latest DLC is very challenging unless you’ve played for at least 1,000 hours.)

Achieve ‘Pure’ scores for more Sunstones rewards by playing a tower without meta-progression medals.
Thousands of hours of deep strategy and tactical decision making gameplay are able to be enjoyed without any mindless grind: Return to each Magic Tower with more meta resources to improve your score, obtain more Sunstones and upgrade your Medal to the max, and repeat the cycle, with each step only becoming a more difficult puzzle to solve!

Take on the later DLC Magic Towers when you’re ready, without needing to wait for them to be on sale: Tactical Nexus DLC will not be discounted before 2027!
No mods and no NSFW derivative works are permitted due to various legal limitations. TeamNexus strongly encourages use of its systems and design, so feel free to implement a ‘Nexus system’ into your own game or mods for other games!

"Won't using the Discord for help make the game no fun?"
This is normally the case for a puzzle game, and in a few situations, you might find a particular experience more hollow in Tactical Nexus due to the help you receive, but Tactical Nexus does avoid a common 'pitfall' of difficult puzzle games:
it never ends or runs out of genuinely novel problems with extremely particular solutions.
Tactical Nexus remains in active development with more DLC on the way!
The small development team is always looking for feedback, will respond to your messages and questions on the Discord server, and even implement your suggestions.

I think this is a pretty cool game, and I can imagine myself becoming extremely addicted to it - But at the same time, I played the tutorial 3 times and was not able to complete it. I can admit that maybe my strategy was trash, but I have a hard time getting into, or recommending, the game when I played it for 2 hours and made 0 progress.
Don't let its simple appearance fool you - Tactical Nexus is an incredible, deep puzzle game shaped like an RPG. There is no randomness to the combat and the goal is to optimize your run through each stage to reach the goal with as much attack, defense, and remaining health as possible. Good runs give permanent, flexible minor and major power boosts which let you take on more stages and create new routes through old stages for higher scores which in turn give more permanent rewards for a satisfying progression loop. Even if you've cleared a stage, most stages have two or three goals, with later goals being located in much more difficult sections, but granting a significant point multiplier. Since nothing is random, even failed runs serve as a form of progression as you learn more about the stage layout, which options to pick when leveling up, and the best order in which to defeat enemies and acquire items. Both barely scraping by for a first clear and finding a way to completely break a level for a massive score boost are also very satisfying. Tactical Nexus can admittedly be a difficult game to get into and it's the type of game most people are likely either going to immediately bounce off of or become obsessed with. It has quite a large number of keyboard shortcuts, menus, and submenus which, while valuable tools for sorting information in a very information-dense game, can definitely be overwhelming, confusing, and generally clunky. You will almost certainly be stumbling upon new, niche interface functionality even after dozens of hours of playtime. Tactical Nexus is also a game which demands a large amount of time. A single run of a stage usually takes several hours. This includes failed attempts which may yield plenty of information, but no tangible rewards. The free base game can easily provide over 100 hours of content. While the expansion DLC is expensive, it justifies its asking price as each chapter provides yet another 100+ hours of content with new stages and new mechanics. I think one particularly important thing which really deserves to be emphasized is all of that playtime feels *meaningful*. None of it is filler. You're constantly improving either through obtaining new information or tangible rewards. The rewards you obtain are based on your highest score in a stage, so you get nothing new for re-clearing a stage with an identical or lower score, making every drop of meta progression feel truly earned. With well over 1000 hours of playtime, I am still only somewhere around the current upper-midgame with plenty of challenges left to complete and none of that time felt wasted. Tactical Nexus won't be for everyone, but it is absolutely worth giving it a chance if you remotely like optimization-based puzzle games. The DLC chapters are designed to be played in order, so there is absolutely no incentive to purchase them before sinking a good chunk of time into the free base game. At worst, you play for an hour or two and decide it's not your type of game. At best, it becomes one of your favorite puzzle games with more handcrafted content than nearly any other puzzle game out there.

This is a game only a completely deranged mind could come up with. Very nice.
The deeper you get into the mechanics and optimization, the more satisfying it becomes to figure out stronger builds and strategies. Definitely the kind of game that can quietly eat up hours if you enjoy theorycrafting and watching your progress slowly snowball over time.
Tactical Nexus is a bump-attack game featuring strong, albeit very slow, meta-progression. For a given run, for the simplest of towers, you will initiate combat against a chosen-foe by simply bumping into them. Using the simple statistics of attack, defense, and hit points, one of you will be victorious (hint: if it is the other guy your game is over). With enough of these victories, you will gain enough experience to level-up, enabling you to choose one of a number of tower-dependent benefits, most commonly a stat boost (more attack, more defense, more HP), or a colored key(s) (or on other more complicated towers maybe something else entirely). Aside from battles, you may also find stat power-ups laying around, sometimes behind colored locks. Now repeat this process for all of the enemies on the floor you are on, as well as for all of the enemies on all of the other floors of the tower. Battles are deterministic. The towers are deterministic. There is no randomness anywhere. If you achieve a high-enough score you will earn a “sunstone” and/or a “medal” which are permanent boons which may be used in any tower in the game to boost all future runs at the outset. Pros: +++ First two chapters (19 towers) are absolutely free. +++ In the simplest towers, the game simple mechanics mixed with the fixed properties, are a dream for anyone who likes order-of-operations puzzles with overly complicated systems. +++ Lost of “undo” is available. ++ Meta-progression is always satisfying. ++ Controls and readouts provide above-average support for the game mechanics and goals. + Instructions on how to play are minimally adequate. YMMV: +/- Some of the mechanics on the later towers are more complicated or just open up way too many options to allow casual play. Unfortunately, if one assumes that all towers are balanced around meta-progression, you can’t simply skip the towers you don’t like without eventually stunting your overall progress. Cons: --- Some towers are just way, way too long. -- Some towers are too hard (and too long). Meta-progression should clean some of this up, but I personally couldn’t get enough steam to keep going. -- I don’t love the graphics. Summary: I really want to keep playing this game (as of the time of this review I have a scant 16 sunstones), as the order-of-operations tactical play is appealing to me. However, the sheer length of some towers, combined with the difficulty is warding me off. My sense is that achieving higher scores requires near-perfection which is not what I am looking for in a game like this. I also dabbled in some of the later towers, with mechanics that go beyond simple keys; and I didn’t much care for those towers. Anyway, you can get a good amount of content absolutely free, so if this gameplay looks at all interesting, no reason not to try. Overall: 6.5/10
I've barely scratched the surface of what Tactical Nexus has to offer, but what I've seen so far is extremely impressive. If you like optimization puzzles then this is THE game for you
IS FUN. GIVE IT A TRY and see the various stages/puzzles! But... It is crashing too often for me, when we reach the end stage block. Other than that, I could see myself losing a lot of time here!
This game is really fun and challenging, but its also surprisingly chill thanks to its turn-based nature. Very much a game thats easy to understand, yet hard to master. There's a lot of nuance to navigating these maps and you can really go wild optimizing the perfect run to maximize your score. Which is cool because there's like a whole separate meta upgrade system for that.
i kinda like it i think - (65.3 hrs at review time) EDIT: I'm addicted and this is the best thing I've ever played
