I have given this a positive review because I enjoyed about 75% of my time in this game, but I should warn you - I didn't finish it (which is unusual for me - I don't like giving up on books or games!). The first Subnautica was the first survival/building/exploring game that clicked for me; the narrative, survival mechanics and gameplay loop really worked well together in a way that I'd not seen before. Through clever design, I felt like I had both freedom to explore and yet was never confused about what my goals were to advance the plot. I had hoped Below Zero would recapture that magic, and while a lot of the core gameplay is the same (and there was the initial magic of getting up and running, finding blueprints and which zones hold which resources), the game never really hangs together in the same way. The above surface cold zone is ok but feels oddly out-of-place, the narrative feels confused and my goals were often unclear, leaving me to putter around trying to work out what to do next to advance things. So - I enjoyed the first 17 or so hours of playtime and wonder what the negative reviewers were talking about (I even liked the modular Sea Truck!) but after that I've been roaming around try to work out what to do in a way that is frustrating more than enjoyable. So I've stopped playing. I think I got my money's worth (I got it on sale), but your mileage may vary.

Great game

WAY better than the original slopnautica!
finito, stupendo.
