Fast becoming my second favourite schmup, after Raiden 3. A nice selection of jets with differing powers and limitations and the soundtrack is catchy. Great fun with an arcade stick. A problem I had was that the game would lose connection with my controller if I changed focus to another program before coming back. This was solved by disabling Steam Input for just this game. Not sure why this is the case but it was an easy fix. One final note: The soundtrack is in Ogg format so you can listen to this outside of the game without much trouble.

Strikers 1945 III doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it's a very solid PSIKYO shoot'em up and my favorite from the 1945 saga. The port is very similar to all CITY CONNECTION releases, a correct one without anything special or mediocre.
PROS:

Beautiful 2D graphics.
Various aircraft to select with very distinctive characteristics.
Great boss designs.
Great enemies designs.
Different rutes each play.
Sound FXs.

CONS:

Difficulty curve. After the second map, the difficulty spike is extremely aggressive.
Bullet patterns and speed.
Player hitbox.
interesting entry in the series but not so good as the second one. This games is fast and crazy hard . dificulty is high. last levels you will probably pass them using bomb. There are 2 buttons on for fire other for buttons, alçtough you will nedd to configure one more for autoshoot. there is a bar that you fill when you fire to the enemy that allows to do supershoot (just hold fire button for a few seconds). enemyes are fast. bullet patterns are crazy fast, but not so inspired as the 2nd one (they are more simple). The gameplay focus more on precise micrododges instead macrodoges. there are elements of bullet hell but faster and harder has the game was designed to don´t have a focus button. There are few player ships to choose. basicaly not so good as the 2nd one but still recomended
Strikers 1945 III, developed by City Connection and Zerodiv and published by City Connection, is a modern restoration of Psikyo’s celebrated vertical shoot-’em-up series, one that pushed the limits of arcade reflexes in the late 1990s. This installment continues the series’ signature tradition of fast-paced aerial combat, explosive boss battles, and razor-sharp bullet patterns, while refining its visual presentation for a modern platform. It is a title that thrives on intensity—a test of precision, timing, and composure in the face of overwhelming odds. For players who grew up with the golden era of arcade shooters, Strikers 1945 III evokes an immediate sense of nostalgia, but it also offers enough technical complexity and mechanical polish to challenge even seasoned players of the genre today. The core structure of the game remains faithful to its predecessors: players choose from six advanced fighter jets, each with distinct firing patterns, speed, and bomb types, then embark on a relentless mission through multiple stages filled with enemy squadrons and massive transforming bosses. Each jet has a unique “charge shot,” adding an element of tactical variety that encourages experimentation and mastery. The game’s pacing is breathless from the very first moment, with enemies flooding the screen in waves, and patterns of glowing bullets weaving through the air in hypnotic rhythm. What sets this entry apart is its escalation toward a bullet-hell philosophy—projectiles cover the screen in intricate formations, demanding absolute focus and dexterity. Every level becomes an intricate dance between chaos and control, rewarding players who can read patterns and anticipate movements rather than simply react. As expected from a Psikyo legacy title, Strikers 1945 III is a game of precision rather than forgiveness. Its difficulty curve is steep but fair; every death feels like a lesson rather than an injustice. The satisfaction of surviving a barrage of enemy fire or perfectly timing a bomb to clear a deadly screen of bullets is what makes the experience so addictive. Scoring mechanics have been refined to encourage risk-taking and skillful play, with “technical bonuses” awarded for targeting boss weak points or using charge attacks effectively. The replayability stems from this score-chasing culture—the more you learn about enemy patterns, the more you can optimize your routes, leading to faster clears and higher rankings. This replay-driven design keeps the game engaging long after the initial run, especially for players who thrive on mastering systems rather than simply completing them. Visually, Strikers 1945 III retains the charm of late-arcade sprite artistry while benefiting from the crispness of its Steam edition. The remastered visuals maintain the hand-drawn quality of the original backgrounds and enemy designs, but the improved resolution brings new clarity to the chaos. The visual variety between stages—ranging from snowy mountain battlefields to mechanical fortresses and alien-invaded skies—gives each mission a distinct atmosphere. The bosses, which transform from tanks and aircraft into massive mecha mid-battle, remain the highlight of the presentation. Their mechanical transformations are fluid and dramatic, filling the screen with energy and motion that still impress decades later. The color palette leans heavily into metallic grays, sharp blues, and explosions of orange and yellow, creating a striking contrast that enhances the visual impact of every dogfight. The sound design, while understated, complements the intensity of the gameplay. The roar of engines, the rapid-fire clatter of bullets, and the punchy detonation of smart bombs all combine to immerse the player in the chaos of battle. The music follows the arcade tradition—energetic, looping tracks that amplify tension without distracting from the focus required to survive. The Steam port runs smoothly overall, offering reliable performance even during the most crowded on-screen moments. Input response feels tight and accurate, a vital element for a game that demands split-second timing. However, there are moments when the sheer volume of on-screen effects can slightly reduce visual clarity, making it difficult to distinguish player bullets from enemy fire, especially during the more visually dense boss encounters. Despite its enduring appeal, Strikers 1945 III is not without its challenges for modern audiences. Its unapologetic difficulty and short campaign length may deter those unfamiliar with arcade conventions. While the game can be completed in under an hour by experts, the true longevity lies in mastering its scoring systems and competing for leaderboard dominance. There are no extensive storylines or unlockable upgrades to soften the experience—this is a pure, distilled shooter built on reflex and repetition. The modern port remains faithful to its roots, though it does little to modernize or expand the formula beyond improved display and accessibility. For some, that authenticity is a strength; for others, it might feel like a missed opportunity to evolve a classic franchise for a new generation. Ultimately, Strikers 1945 III stands as both a preservation of arcade mastery and a reminder of how elegant and exhilarating pure gameplay can be. It strips away the excesses of modern design and focuses on the primal thrill of dodging, shooting, and surviving. Every explosion, every near-miss, and every hard-earned victory carries that unmistakable arcade satisfaction that defined an era. City Connection and Zerodiv’s Steam version ensures that this experience remains accessible to contemporary players while honoring its roots. For fans of shoot-’em-ups, Strikers 1945 III is more than just another re-release—it is a piece of arcade history brought to life again, fast, unforgiving, and endlessly replayable. It is a game that doesn’t just test your reflexes, but your determination, reminding players why the genre still commands respect decades later. Rating: 8/10
Nice arcade shooter, but not as good as work done by Cave, and no tiny hitboxes here. If you have weak equipment, it may not be able to keep up. My previous laptop had all sorts of problems running this game, but my newest laptop runs it sweetly.
