During my playtime of 10 minutes, i felt immersed in the experience of Russian Street Fighting. The feelings i had whilst playing the game were an array of joy and ecstacy. I was driven to tears by how happy I was to play this and I am thankful to my friend who has gifted this masterpiece to me. He has become my closest friend and thanks to this game we are now married.
Street Fighting Simulator from Astra Playroom is a small-scale beat ’em up that aims to recapture the feeling of old-school arcade brawlers in the most straightforward way possible. Released at a very low price point, it is positioned as an accessible, casual experience rather than a polished or expansive fighting title. Its modest scope shows through in both strengths and weaknesses: it offers an uncomplicated way to punch through waves of enemies, but it also lacks the depth and polish to keep more seasoned players hooked for long. The structure is immediately familiar. You pick from a roster of eleven fighters, each with slightly different looks and move sets, and march through six distinct levels that range from discos to garages to hospitals. Enemies approach in waves, and your job is to clear them out using a handful of basic moves. Kicks, punches, and blocks form the core of the toolkit, with a sprawl kick thrown in for variety. The inclusion of a training stage is a nice touch, letting players experiment with moves before diving into the main action. Combat is easy to learn and approachable, which makes the game suitable for players who don’t want to wrestle with complicated systems. Visually, the game leans on atmosphere to make up for its simplicity. Each stage has a distinct setting, and while the art and animation are not elaborate, they do enough to differentiate one environment from another. The presentation clearly evokes the side-scrolling fighting games of the late ’80s and early ’90s, though at a much smaller scale. Sound design and music are functional, serving as background accompaniment rather than standout features. The overall effect is a straightforward but nostalgic package that feels designed for short bursts of play. That simplicity, however, also limits the game’s staying power. With only six stages, players will see nearly everything Street Fighting Simulator has to offer in a relatively short time. Enemy variety is thin, and without deeper mechanics or a progression system, battles begin to feel repetitive once the novelty of the settings wears off. The lack of advanced combos or tactical layers means that fights tend to follow the same rhythm from start to finish. For casual players this predictability may be a comfort, but for fans of the genre it can leave the experience feeling flat. On the technical side, the game is lightweight and easy to run. It requires very little storage space, loads quickly, and can run on nearly any modern PC without issue. Language support includes English and Russian, and basic visual clarity makes it accessible even to those new to the genre. It is not feature-rich—there are no extensive settings, no multiplayer, and no major extras—but it functions smoothly, which is commendable for such a budget release. Reception among players has been more positive than one might expect. Those who buy it knowing what it is—a short, inexpensive beat ’em up—often appreciate its charm and accessibility. The user reviews on Steam lean in favor of the game, with many citing its nostalgic vibe and simple fun as reasons for enjoyment. Criticism generally comes from players who hoped for more depth, more levels, or more polish, which are fair expectations but ones the game was never really designed to meet. In the end, Street Fighting Simulator is a modest project that succeeds in delivering a no-frills brawling experience at a bargain price. It is not meant to compete with modern fighting games or even with the more ambitious retro-inspired titles in the genre. Instead, it offers an uncomplicated throwback for those who enjoy classic side-scrolling combat in small doses. As long as you approach it with tempered expectations—seeing it as a bite-sized arcade distraction rather than a full-featured fighter—it can provide a few hours of straightforward, nostalgic fun.
