Great fighting game, if only I were any good at it
My yapping thoughts
its my first fighting game, and i gotta say this is a beginner friendly game (as far as it can be, cause there is still sweats just like in every matchmaking based games). There is a lot of things that are confusing, but i think its best to just play story, get used to moves and get the flow of animation frames and just have fun, dont stuck learning combos at first cause u r still not gonna do them under pressure in match, just play whoever u like and have fun, then pick a character u liked the most. If u r a competetive person, thats a hella great game, the player loop is great and i have love-hate relationship with it. As a non fighting games player at first i didnt even understand the concept of why is there light attack i just wanna do chonky dmg but then u match a player who counters animations by spamming light attack, then u be like ok what beats it, u check guides or replays and see that ppl using colorful thingies, u start to overuse those, get punished, learn how to counter the counter, yare yare. Overall the experience of this learning is great, it gives the dopamine if u can overcome it, and the moment it clicks after a hardstuck moment its like uve been a monk and just realised the meaning of life after 20 years of sitting under the waterfall. I recommend it, genuinely. But if u r not into graphics try guilty gear strive or avatar legends instead, i feel like its more responsive, it is easier to hit circle/ult moves there with same input, felt more clear to me idk.
Pros:

Beginner friendly controls (modern type)
Colorful thingy go boom, everything is flashy and colorful
Good network code (i would say 8/10 but i like guilty gears better, its more responsive ig)
Good roaster of characters (rip 2WeeksKO)
There is kinda high amount of players (for a fighting game especially), online is not THAT dead
Story mode is fun to play and its long enough to get the controls flow
Good trainging mode with presets, frame data, slowing/pausing down the time
Game runs smoothly and hella optimised (what can i say its RE Engine boys)
Mods, there is cute mods out there and really good community tool for it (Fluffy Manager)

Cons:

No users on lowest ranks, u will fight chinese Jamie with 1 wifi bar and game will freeze a lot
Community is either horny or toxic (win-and-quit, yap about modern, and dont get me started on the clubs.. just open this tab and ull understand)
Steep learning curve, it takes a lot of time knowledge wise to understand all the options and train them all
The playerbase is full of sweats and old players, pretty much fortnite moment, little to no new players
A lot of chars are locked behind paywall but to be fair they give u rental fighter like each week or something idk i have 5 already and i just open messages to see whos birthday today
Combo drills and some mechanics are explained poorly id say but could it could be me
I feel like battle pass give u literally nothing in value
I cant play it more than 30-40 minutes, my fingers get tired of doing quarter circle moves so i just play footsies
