About
You start with just a few animals and a modest plot of land. Build enclosures, place feeders, toys, and decorations, care for your animals, and attract your first visitors. Everything is going great… until a tornado sweeps through the zoo, meteors start falling, or a UFO decides to abduct your most valuable animal.
Strange Zoo combines zoo management with dynamic top-down action gameplay. You won’t be watching the world from behind a desk—you’ll run between enclosures, feed the animals, clean up, repair damage, and personally respond to every crisis.
Buy new animals, design enclosures, and invest your hard-earned coins in increasingly advanced facilities. A restaurant, education center, laboratory, or observation tower can transform a small menagerie into a world-class attraction.
The larger and wealthier your zoo becomes, the greater the challenges its owner will face.
From chickens, cats, and alpacas to lions, tigers, gorillas, and exotic fish. Animals have their own needs and behaviors—they grow up, reproduce, and react to the world around them. Buy animals and record unique sounds for them! You can also collect as many as 49 rare animal variants—from black swans and white lions to albino alligators. That’s more than 90 different animals to collect in total!
An AI-controlled event director monitors your zoo’s development and keeps the surprises coming at just the right pace. You’ll encounter both exciting opportunities and genuine disasters:
Fires, storms, earthquakes, tornadoes, meteor showers, UFO visits, veterinary inspections, and fox attacks
Changes in animal market prices
Sponsors, concerts, influencers reviewing your zoo, and other unusual events
Invest your hard-earned coins in dozens of permanent upgrades. Increase your character’s movement speed, improve food quality, develop your breeding program, hire more efficient employees, and boost ticket revenue. You can also unlock new buildings, equipment, toys, and unique animal variants. Every investment changes how you manage your zoo and prepares it for ever-greater challenges.
Choose the relaxing Building Mode, the balanced Story Mode, or the unpredictable Chaos Mode. Set the frequency of events, choose your objective, and decide whether you want to create an ark filled with different species, make a fortune, attract huge crowds, become a master breeder, or simply survive.

Strange Zoo approaches the management genre with an intentionally silly personality, combining the familiar responsibilities of running an animal park with features designed to create unpredictable and humorous situations. Developed and published by Pomerania Games, it revolves around collecting animals, expanding a zoo, looking after its inhabitants, and dealing with unusual events. Its standout idea is the ability to record your own voice and have the animals repeat those recordings, immediately separating the experience from more conventional zoo simulators. The zoo gradually grows as new animals are obtained and additional species are added to the collection. With more than 40 species available, there is enough variety to make discovering and acquiring creatures an important part of progression. Breeding provides another reason to maintain a healthy population, while rare animal variants introduce a collecting element for players who enjoy hunting for less common specimens. These systems encourage steady expansion without turning the game into an overwhelmingly complicated management simulation. Taking care of the animals is equally important. Comfort-related objects can be placed around their environments, giving players practical reasons to improve individual areas instead of simply filling the zoo with as many creatures as possible. Blankets are particularly memorable because they can alter the voices of animals, connecting the care mechanics directly to the game's comedic recording feature. Lamps and other useful items further contribute to animal comfort and provide small customization opportunities throughout the park. The voice system is undoubtedly the game's defining feature. Players can use a microphone to record phrases and then hear those recordings spoken by animals. Hearing a wolf, alpaca, parrot, or another creature suddenly repeat something ridiculous can transform an otherwise routine management session into a surprisingly personal comedy sandbox. Because the humor comes partly from what the player chooses to record, the feature has plenty of potential for experimentation. The voice-changing effects associated with certain objects make the system even more entertaining. Running the zoo is not always peaceful. Strange Zoo introduces disasters that can suddenly disrupt normal operations, including fires, tornadoes, meteor showers, and UFO abductions. These events prevent the management cycle from becoming completely predictable and reinforce the game's exaggerated tone. Watching a carefully organized animal park descend into chaos because of an absurd catastrophe creates the sort of emergent comedy that fits the concept particularly well. Players therefore need to balance expansion with the possibility that unexpected trouble can interfere with their plans. Quests add structure beyond freeform building and collecting. They provide objectives to work toward while the broader progression systems encourage players to expand their collection, breed animals, search for unusual variants, and improve the zoo. Trading and resource management also contribute to the overall loop. The result is a game that offers several interconnected activities without appearing determined to bury the player beneath complicated economic systems or intimidating spreadsheets. The visual presentation complements this philosophy. Its colorful 2D style is simple and approachable, putting personality ahead of technical spectacle. The cartoon-like animals fit naturally with the strange situations occurring around them, and the contrast between their cute appearance and catastrophes such as meteor showers or alien abductions strengthens the humor. Players expecting highly realistic environments or elaborate three-dimensional construction will need to adjust their expectations, but the straightforward art direction serves the game's identity effectively. Its greatest potential weakness is that much of its individuality depends on whether the player embraces the microphone mechanic and unconventional humor. Someone who frequently experiments with recordings can turn the animals into an endless source of amusing interactions. A player who ignores that feature may instead experience a comparatively lightweight animal-management game. Likewise, those expecting the enormous economic depth, detailed construction tools, or sophisticated simulation systems associated with larger management titles may find the scope modest. Strange Zoo is better understood as an accessible, quirky sandbox built around collecting, caring for animals, and creating amusing situations. Controller support is partial rather than comprehensive. Regarding Steam Deck compatibility, there is no clearly established official Steam Deck Verified or Playable classification to rely upon, so compatibility should be considered unconfirmed. The modest 2D presentation itself is unlikely to be the primary concern; controls, interface usability, and especially microphone-related functionality are more relevant factors for portable play. Anyone purchasing specifically for Steam Deck should therefore expect that some configuration or compromises could be necessary rather than assuming a completely optimized handheld experience. Overall, Strange Zoo has an appealing identity because it does not attempt to be another serious zoo-management simulation. Its combination of more than 40 animal species, breeding, rare variants, quests, resource management, environmental objects, voice recordings, and absurd disasters creates a playful mixture of management and sandbox comedy. The underlying systems give players meaningful objectives, while the speaking-animal mechanic provides the personality that makes the concept memorable. It may lack the complexity demanded by hardcore simulation enthusiasts, but players looking for something cheerful, unusual, and deliberately chaotic could find plenty to enjoy. Rating: 7/10
