Step Away makes your time off-screen feel more rewarding. While you’re away, going for a walk, cleaning up or grocery shopping, the little wanderer gathers steps. When you return, you might find he’s earned a new hat for his journey.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.
About
Hey there!
Ever find yourself stuck in front of your PC with zero motivation to do the things life actually expects from you? Then this little app we made might be just what you need.
Type in what you're about to do, place your cursor in the square, and watch the little wanderer set off. While you’re away doing something useful, like going for a walk, cleaning up, or grocery shopping, he’ll quietly gather steps in the background. And when you come back, he might even have earned a new hat for his efforts.
We know it’s not always easy to get away from screen and deal with life stuff. This app gives you a gentle push in the right direction and a small reward for being off-screen.
This is a super minimal experience. No pressure, no complexity, no real gameplay. Just peaceful vibes and a little guy walking while you’re AFK.
Rack up steps to unlock a handful of charming hats. Equip whatever suits your style.
If you enjoy this, please consider picking up the Supporter Pack DLC. It helps us keep making creative content like this. And if you’ve got any feedback, we’d love to hear from you on our Discord :)

- In order to "play" the game, your mouse pointer needs to be placed in a very small square on the screen to make the character walk and count steps, which will unlock hats and achievements. - If the mouse pointer moves away from the square by any means, the character stops walking. - You cannot use any other app or browser while running this idle game in the background; otherwise, the character won't walk. Therefore, upon careful consideration of the aforementioned state of affairs, I would like to ask the dev(s), with due respect, to STEP AWAY from game development.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Pros: I have a life now - Cons: My character has better fashion sense than I do Spent 50 hours in this game. I can confidently say I have no idea what the graphics look like because the developers literally designed it so

Very simple: hover your mouse on one spot of the screen to walk. 1 second = 1 step. Earn new hats at certain milestones. It's very basic, but it does what it's supposed to do, and at least with this game, you are actively earning hats, not *just* sitting and looking at someone studying at a desk. There are achievements for earning the hats... but oooohhhhhhh boy... is this game CRAZY with the number of steps needed for the last hat. 500000 steps. I'm at almost 40 hours as of typing this, and I'm only at like 130000. I've heard that it used to be 10 MILLION steps. You're probably looking at around 140 hours to 100% this game, and you can't minimize the game or it doesn't work, the mouse has to hover on a spot on the screen. 500000 seconds, plus the several seconds to load the game and hover your mouse every time you do a run. You've been warned, achievement hunters.
I didn't know you could been even more boring than other idle game on the steam.
Perfect Great ☑ Decent Painfully Average Garbage
The perfect game to make you feel like you're accomplishing something for doing chores and going to work.
Why is this a thing? What benefit do you get for keeping the "game" running on a machine without an active player - a few measly hats and achievements, which take forever to unlock? Why should anyone waste electricity instead of... just turning it off while away? Not like its an incremental with upgrades, a slow-ass constant pace forever. AND it needs focus, stops counting when on a different window. Idk man, if power bill is so free to you go for it. Is this some sort of rich joke that I'm too peasant to understand?
This is a good afk game !! You HAVE TO be afk (placing your mouse in a small space) which is so great because it forces you to be productive (or to chill, relax whilst doing something else, resting...) The different hats are cute, it's very satisfying to see the steps going up and up ! It's one of the most useful afk game imo because it's not one that you can just let play on the background of your pc - it's wayyyy more efficient and I'd love to find other games like this one now that I got every achievements !
the name says it all in this one. the game you play when you "step away"! when you have to go to an appointment, when you have to sleep, or even while your away at work... you can still be gaming as the wanderer collects steps while your gone. once you move the game ends so, let this one run when you have other stuff to do! boom! free cheevos!
