Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
"Stellar Witch" is an interesting concept, designed poorly, and implemented even worse, resulting in a game that was largely a failure on Steam direct. The game has you play as a witch doing duels on a grid board, placing tiles just the right way to defeat enemies. What do you do in the game? You collect constellation tiles, which get placed like an RPG inventory (and when the whole game is basically a subset of a single feature of other entire games, you know you're gonna have a bad time). So yeah, tetris meets CCG, only awful. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images... it might as well be a web page. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. As mentioned, this features really godawful, "wrong" looking AI slop instead of genuinely and sincerely created game assets. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating real game assets or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision. AI slop sticks out like a sore thumb... and it comes across as insulting. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too, and that's glaringly obvious here. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. As a result of this poor decision, the game gets tired and repetitive almost immediately. Developers must learn that procgen is a terrible substitute for creating real content. It should not be used as "ez-mode" for content creation, as the developer tried to do here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? This is a hard pass. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere.

Only those with a sharp mind and quick hands can claim the constellations It's quite fun!!
For a free game - this one has reasonable quantity and quality of content and reasonably deep mechanics. it is well balanced, the gameplay loop itself is interesting, and the achievements will encourage you to finish the run in different ways, all of them are doable, while giving some challenge. I played for 4 hours and had fun, i guess I would need another 2 hours to unlock all achievements and mark the game as completed. I can imagine a paid game that takes those ideas and improves on them - could be a really good one. I would rate this one as 7.5 / 10

step on tiles of your items to activate skills. learn bosses' attack pattern and make room for error with better items and combos.
Honestly really great mechanically, it's a pretty fun game and I'd probably pay for a full version if one existed. I think the combination of tile-based bullet hell + a weird placement-based weapon system that almost reminds me of backpack-management esque games works really well. Only issue: the audio is generally Not Good. The tutorial music genuinely got on my nerves really bad (youtube vlog ukelele) and almost made me want to stop playing right there. The rest of it is *better*, though clearly stock. Enemy attack sound effect audio mixing is also rough, some attacks being mixed way louder than they realistically should be. The tutorial boss is a prime example. Every boss only uses one sound effect with every attack they do, no pitch shifting, and it plays every time a square gets attacked - which is a lot. It's not an *issue*, but it's still nothing better than servicable. Genuinely, though, everything else is great. Cool gameplay design. Weapons might be a little unbalanced, but eh.
