Very boring and lifeless game. Since early access nothing has really changed or improved and the world feels utterly empty. Also harsh critics about user data collection popped up which is not surprising but definitely uncalled for in an offline singleplayer farming sim. Cannot recommend this game, didnt like it.
Do you like owning a farm with buncha different livestocks with dogs and cats running around? This game is for you! If you like grinding mindlessly and forming relationship with soulless generic characters with no story then this is definitely for you as well!! oh and there's a capybara too! Only good thing about this game is the Luna Rabbit with a moon glowing aura, golden chickens, rainbow sheep.
Add more stories in game. Each characters stories and also the MC. That's all. This game really lack of stories.
Feels like people who paid got scammed!!! I gave this game benefit of doubt during EA. Because yes ea are mostly messy and unfinished and they do feel all over the place. Even back then this felt like a skeletal remains of a free to play game design later marketed as farming rpg due to some issues they faced..makes sense why a million dollar CN company backed them which makes mobile F2P games. Now in EA this doubt is getting more stronger. There is absolutely no improvement or addition of content no road map no communication. The way they handled kickstarter situation and community communication makes me feel all they wanted was some quick money back thay they invested in this project initially. Sure they kept adding furniture and clothes like a mobile game but no quality content. The game is buggy mess. I feel this is a scam..maybe not outright but definitely they lied and wanted to release a quick cash grab.
I make a point to not buy AI slop, it just mean that the result will be terrible and confusing. I'm sure plenty of people are tired of hearing about AI, but I'm tired of these big companies shoving it down our throats and pumping out this no effort "art". I got this game really early on, so I passed the return window. So, since I cannot return I'm leaving a bad review. By the time the AI started becoming blaringly obvious. I've only felt scammed like this from two games, this is the second one. I own hundreds of games on here, indie and AAA. Stolen assets, AI that was undisclosed, early access with practically no updates to the fix bugs or finish the game. No roadmap, BUT plenty of paid DLC. I don't recommend this game in it's current state. They could fix it. However, given this company's track record I doubt that will happen.
The game is soooo buggy. All my animals are behaving weird since EA, no matter what I do, it does not resolve. My romance quest with the cook broke with the transition to 1.0 and I've been waiting for a rainy day for 2 weeks with nothing to do to discover that.... I'm just so frustrated with the state of the game. I expected that at least some bugs would be taken care of in 1.0, but nope, not a single one. It's like they dusted a bit of content on the game and shipped it. Very disappointing.
Let me preface this with two things: 1. I rarely leave bad reviews and 2. I was a big fan of the building mechanics and already got my money's worth out of this in Early Access... in the knowledge it was an EA game funded by a Kickstarter. The bar is low here, and with that in mind: Nobody should buy this game in it's current buggy, unfinished and stripped-of-content state. Somehow that's not even the worst part about this mess... That crown goes to the frankly insulting levels of persistent dishonesty and lack of transparency from the developer/publishers. A small handful of oddities I could (and did) put down to language barriers and forgivable communication mishaps from an inexperienced studio, but somewhere in the few months leading up to 1.0 release, it became increasingly clear the studio was not going to meet overpromised targets on time and/or running out of funding. Seed Sparkle Labs decided that the best way to do damage control prior to release would not be to be honest and transparent, but instead squander the substantial goodwill and any hope of positive word-of-mouth advertising as quickly as possible. This was achieved through attempts to seemingly remove or obscure evidence of previously promised features, and being deliberately vague and evasive when asked very reasonable questions about game content, roadmaps or updates. This is all without even touching complaints I've seen from backers and Seed Sparkle Lab's failure to deliver on obligations there. Now in the days since 1.0 launch, their news updates seem designed to deliberately deceive new players into thinking the game is receiving bigger content updates than it actually is by listing a middling amount of new 1.0 content along with old additions from the EA phase. I can only assume this was done to give the illusion of either professionalism or ongoing support and updates. Anyway, the building mechanics are cool and you get a skateboard you can kind-of do tricks on - 1/10
Okay. A lot of people have feelings about 1.0 and if you are considering buying, here's what you need to know:
This game is an adorably cute farming sim with a bit of adventure/combat thrown in.
Is it worth your time? Well, I have almost 300hrs and most people I see (yes, angry commenters too) have about 100hrs. For me, for $40, I'm happy with that cost to time investment ratio. What is good about the game? The farming and vibes. It's fun gameplay (if you like farming and collecting). I particularly love the animals. Flowers are also a ton of fun to farm. You can also mine in the caves with a bit of combat. I enjoyed it a lot, but you should know it is pretty short. Your main activities will be farming/animals and collecting. What is bad about the game? The devs never really made anything complete beyond farming and collecting. There are townsfolk, but they don't do much. They are nice enough to interact with. You can give them gifts and level up friendship. You can even have a villager move in with you, but they don't change their behavior and if you're looking for romance, this game isn't that. You can get pets, but, again, they don't do much. There are some outfits that are fun to mix and match, but not a huge selection. Definitely enough to keep you entertained for a while though. There is a multiplayer if you want help farming, but it is very limited and progress in a friend's game will not carry back to yours. If the farming is good and the problems are mid, why are all the reviews bad? Mainly bad dev behavior. People are mad because they purchased this in Early Access and the game has not had any major improvements with 1.0 launch. In fact, in some ways the game is worse than EA. A lot of bugs were fixed in EA, but there are still some lingering. And the devs made a lot of promises that they not only didn't keep, but they tried to gaslight people into thinking they never existed. They promised equal male/female romanceable characters. Launched EA with 8 female/7 male. Launched 1.0 with 8 female/6 male. So they removed one and made it less balanced. They also had controversy at EA launch that 3 of the male options look almost identical and they had changed the style of 1 of the female options to look much more bland. In 1.0 they removed 1 male option (as mentioned), and you might think this was one of the triplets since people had complained they were too similar. Nope. They took away one of the guys with a unique design. So now, of 6 male candidates, 3 of them look the same. Also, they redesigned another female candidate to make her more bland (just as they had done at EA launch with a different female option), and people don't like this either. The devs had long promised adding romance options to the game, and while they added going dates, no one really likes them since, again, they are bland. But here's the thing... The problem is not that this game is bad. It's a good game. I have fun playing it -FOR WHAT IT IS- which is a cute farming sim. The problem is that isn't the game both the devs promised and the fans wanted. They wanted a fleshed-out town, compelling characters, and interesting romance options. If you are looking for something story-driven, this game will probably fall short for you. I say this with no malice nor entitlement either way. At the end of the day, the devs and their game's marketing all promised something that the game isn't and people have a right to be upset about that. But I didn't buy it for the characters. I bought it for the ADORABLE bunnies and sheep and cows and deer and the house personalization while building up your farm. And all of those things work GREAT. I had an awesome time farming/ranching and I enjoyed the caves a lot too. The core gameplay loop is fun and I rarely had to look up guides online for where or how to do things because the game naturally led me to the next step or I picked up a quest that guided me through in-game. It felt seamless and smooth. That kind of game design doesn't happen by accident. This game didn't end up as a good romance game, but the reason it has so many angry fans is because Starsand Island was charming and endearing enough in its core gameplay as a farming sim that people fell in love with it and wanted MORE. The devs fed on that and promised more, and yet never delivered, causing the backlash. But that doesn't change the fact that the reason this game has those fans is because it is a fun farming game. And I would hate for broken dev promises to make everyone lose sight of that and keep people from an experience they might genuinely enjoy, just as it is.
