I really wanted to like this game but it turns out I absolutely cannot abide real-time-with-pause combat. I’ve tried and failed in other games but KOTOR is such a beloved classic that I thought I could power through and get used to it. I can’t. Combat is opaque and frustrating; instead of inhabiting the characters, I feel like I’m babysitting idiots who are doing their best to ignore me. I know auto-pause exists. It doesn’t fix the game for me. I’m sure some of this a skill issue but the lack of in-game clarity finally sapped my will to play at about 10 hours. It just wasn’t fun. I really hope the remake does away with this nonsense or at least give us a viable alternative - there’s a reason it’s so rarely used.
This might be the best RPG ever made AND the best entry in the Star Wars franchise at the same time. 10/10 must play, if they taught classic videogames at schools (like classic literature), there's no doubt this game would be one of them.
100/10
classic if you're willing to use some mods to bring it to modern aspect ratios and resolutions
23 years later, this games still shine by the wide range of choices you have regarding questlines & it iconic storyline. A must do !!
