Square Word: Back to Work! is developed by CCS (Cold Coffee Studio) A colorful word game in a Wordle type environment, where the player will be searching for appropriate words according to the category. At the bottom of the grid are several blank squares of varying amounts. It's up to you to figure out individual words related to the current category. The tricky part is that some words may have different directional possibilities so even though the word may be correct, it's possible that you have chosen the wrong directional path and it may leave letters that can't be connected. The player will go through 4 difficulty levels in the course of the game, beginning with Easy to Very Hard. Each of the 4 categories (Sports, Jobs, Places, Autumn) include the following puzzles: * Easy 3x3 puzzle-5 Levels * Medium 4x4 puzzle-4 Levels * Hard 5x5 puzzle-3 Levels * Very hard 6x6 puzzle 4 Levels As the player progresses through the game, they will be rewarded with in game Stamps which can be redeemed for Hints. There is an option of 2 kinds of Hints-First Letter or the entire Word. Earn 1 Hint for every objective completed or earn 1 word Hint for every 3 objectives. If more hints are required, there is an envelope that drops down from the top of the main menu, and if clicked, will grant the player 1 Hint. The difficulty level progresses the further you go. There is also a daily challenge (with a timer) to complete, and if successful, will grant you 1 Hint. Pros: * 140+ Words to find * Handcrafted grids * Music complements the game * Daily challenge * Hints * 12 Achievements Cons: * The sporadic drop of the envelope in the main menu to grab 1 Hint in an effort to proceed takes sometime to drop * No trading cards Final Thoughts: Would be a great game for co-op if developer decides to implement it in the future. This is kind of a difficult game and quicker hints would be nice. Or it could just be me. The price is reasonable for what you get and is currently on sale, so even better value.
WAY MORE CHALLENGING THAN ITS PREDECESSORS
Square Words is a game that requires you to make themed words from various-sized grids of letters. You can create words horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, and in most cases, it's a combination of all 3 directions. There are four categories: Sports, Jobs, Places, and Autumn. Each category has three Easy 3x3 grids, three Medium 4x4 grids, and three Hard 5x5 grids. (The words do seem to change each time you replay.) There is also a Daily Game and a Mixed 6x6 category in a Very Hard mode. At the bottom of the grid are several blank squares of varying amounts. It's up to you to figure out individual words related to the current category. The tricky part is that some words may have different directional possibilities, so even though the word may be correct, it's possible that you chose the wrong directional path because it may leave letters on the outer edges that can't be connected, and you'll have to restart the level. There are two different Hint types. The Letter Hint fills in the first letter of one word. The Word Hint gives you the answer to the word, but it's still up to you to figure out the directional path. Additional Hints can be earned by playing the Daily Game, completing an entire category, or completing Achievement Stamp objectives. You will earn 1 hint per objective, such as completing one Daily Grid game. Word Hints are earned when you complete three of these objectives. You can also "catch" a hint by clicking on the Envelope that drops down from the top of the main screen (which is also an achievement x5) I did find this game to be more challenging than the last two games. In my opinion, it was more challenging to figure out the correct words in some of the categories because the words didn't seem to fit the category, were slang words, or incomplete words.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
For example: Under the category JOBS, a Nun is considered a job (I consider it a "calling" or a "community service") Cop is used in one puzzle and Police in another, which is inconsistent at the very least. A "Star" is considered to be a job. I understand that you can be a star employee, but that seems more like a status than a job to me? Under the category PLACES, "Sun" is considered to be a place, which seems a bit of a stretch. Under the category SPORTS, apparently, "Volley," (not Volleyball) is a sport. I Googled "Is Volley a sport?" and the closest I came to connecting Volley to a sport was a definition for Tennis: The flight of the ball before it hits the ground. The return of the ball before it hits the ground. I also encountered the word "Summerset," which is an acrobatic feat in which the feet roll over the head (either forward or backward) and return. Technically, these words are related to sports, but they are technical terms, and I don't think the average Joe would be able to make these connections...but I could be wrong. The bottom line is that I still enjoyed the game, just not as much as the previous two games, because I had to use all of my hints when I couldn't figure out these vaguely related words. I even had to grab extra hints on the main menu just to get through the Sports category, and that took away from the enjoyment of the game overall. Cute game, but quite easy. Took 65 minutes to complete all puzzles 100%. Would definitely wait for a 75% off or more sale on it.
So this is an interesting word game. Similar to the Wordle games on Steam. Decent enough.
An engrossing, challenging, fun game! I can't believe I got 100% so it is a very satisfying game too!
