Right. So, the dev for SpHero just announced that this game will be delisted, and the reason for doing so makes complete sense. Apparently, licensing for the game where he lives was changed recently to be done only via e-filing and has a $2500 cost attached to it now. Which obviously is a non-starter when you have sold around 30 copies of the game. I definitely feel for the dev. It seems like another instance of government screwing somebody over for no real reason whatsoever. Anyway, since there was a copy sitting in Curator Connect, I thought I'd give the game a look as a final hurrah before it gets delisted. This is the game I experienced: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3455678258 Was there a snafu with the game's executables? No idea. I did verify the game files, and my computer is fully updated, so I doubt it's anything on my end. Who knows with these things though? That the game is unplayable while also having been announced that it's going to be delisted does raise some questions, but it could also be something completely random. Either way, I obviously can't give a thumbs up to a black screen simulator. And while it's uncertain whether or not this issue will be fixed, if it is fixed, I'll revisit the game and give it a quick look. 1 Week after a 90% Sale The Developer announce the Removal of this Game. Not a Nice Move. why? 1. inform your customers BEFORE they buy a product on sale that this will be Removed soon (and Developer possible knew about it because the Removal is because of Taxes in Canada!) 2. for all collectors/vultures they didnt got it and now pay 10 bucks instead of 1. well as the Developer stated here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2835720/view/547856738465875352 for preservation:
Hello everyone, We want to inform you that SpHero will be removed from the Steam store in the near future. This decision was not made lightly, and we truly appreciate all the support you’ve given us since launch. What This Means If you already own the game, you will still be able to download and play it even after removal. New purchases will no longer be possible once it is removed. Why Is This Happening? SpHero was developed with a clear vision: the ultimate physics-based ball-rolling adventure with RPG superpowers. We’re proud of what we created and grateful that it reached an audience. As independent developers, we followed the necessary steps—forming a corporation, setting up a website, paying fees, and doing our best to stay afloat. However, recent changes in the Canadian tax system have made it financially unfeasible to continue. Previously, filing corporate taxes cost us around $4 in paper and mailing fees. Now, paper filing is banned and non-compliance is punishable by fines of up to $10,000. The new mandatory electronic submission system starts at $2,500—far beyond what we’ve earned from the game. Due to this, we have no choice but to close our corporation, which also means shutting down the Steam account that hosts SpHero. What’s Next? Despite this setback, we’re still working on other projects. In fact, we recently released a bug fix update thanks to player feedback! While we will no longer operate under a corporate entity, we’ll continue creating games in other ways. For those who have purchased SpHero and require a bug fix, we plan to keep a channel open on our website: https://flaskgames.ca/about-us/. Simply contact us and we will get back to you. Thank you for being part of this journey. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below. — Flask Games Inc. It is a great game. I wish it would still be available in the Steam store for others to enjoy it in the future.
Pros:
-addictive gameplay that'll keep you coming back for more (try older levels and see how you improved!) -a wide variety of levels with all different sorts of gimmicks -up to two fun abilities and a passive that can massively change how you interact with levels -there's collectables, a rank based on speed and most levels have an alternative end point for more replayability -you can customize your ball
Cons:
-Bugs! The game is a little janky early on, but it wasn't anything that really distracted from the game, but on later levels two abilities (phase ball and bomb ball) no longer blew up crates or allowed me to phase through translucent walls. Level 53 of 60 didn't even load properly so I couldn't play it or any later levels so I technically didn't even beat the game! Achievements don't seem to work either and in-game trophies might work.
Verdict!!!
The game is lots of fun and bugs and all I think the game is worth it on sale for most people. I got the game when it was on it's lowest sale yet, so that goes double for me. If not on sale it's a tentative yes. If this game sounds right up your alley (i.e. you like to beat levels fast, find secret end points and collectables) then it's probably worth it at full price. Based on other reviews the bug that stopped me from playing level 53 onwards doesn't happen to everyone (because another review mentions beating the game) or may even be really rare, so factor that into your decision. Edit: Levels 53 and onwards are working now and bomb ball seems to work better, so consider my recommendation stronger.
Actually hard game but I beat it! Unlike other marble rollers that look like baby's first tutorial, this game is pretty good! You also can't use the same strategy on every level since the gimmicks change all the time. 10/10, would recommend!
regardless of clunky controlling, a ton of bugs and bad level designs.. this game has very nice BGM, I took them with OBS studio and use it for daily use..
I recently stumbled upon this game during the steam sale, and I’m honestly surprised there aren’t more reviews for it. The game mechanics are really intuitive. There is smooth movement and responsive controls. The level design is clever, encouraging exploration and creative problem-solving while rewarding those who take the time to look beyond the obvious paths. This is a fun game for all ages and definitely keeps you engaged.
great game!
Someone recommended me this game and to be fair, it's really challenging. The first world is easy, and I get it, it's a tutorial; the second world really ramps up the difficulty. It's worth getting if you want a challenging 3D platformer. As the other commenter said, it has an in-game shop (no DLCs or microtransactions), it has customization options, a password system to unlock goodies and a lot of levels. My only issue is the characters being spheres, cubes and pyramids, but honestly, they are so scarce, the main attraction is the level.
This is a really good ball-rolling game. There is gameplay variety, collectibles, achievements, an in game shop to use your points, etc. Its not the typical Point A to Point B ball-rolling game. It did get really challenging really fast, and I temporarily threw in the towel at the 4th level. The difficulty curve is a little steep, so good luck.
