Very interesting for a free game. The concept of mixing abilities can make you feel invincible for a while until an enemy has an ability that counters your strategy. My build carried me through areas 10 levels above me, but I ran into a boss that made me hit myself and I didn't realize until I looked at the death log(super helpful) which shows the attacks/abilities being used. So always exercise caution when fighting a new boss. There's not really a pause that I'm aware of so you can't always step back to assess a situation. Currently at level 50 and it seemed weird that it's too low level for the training zone even though my character can handle it. It can be very intense if you don't have a AOE ability to avoid getting dog piled. Edit: A boss about 26 levels below me randomly did over 5,400 dmg to me with no skill or ability noted in the death log which is very annoying.
Spellwake is a genuinely charming and mechanically satisfying game, despite its crude graphics and basic gameplay. Though the online servers seem to have been completely abandoned, the game seems to offer enough content to keep you entertained for many hours, that is if you're into Diablo-like games and don't mind a repetitive gameplay loop. Most of the game's actual content lies in its deep build customization system, which allows for basically endless possibilities by giving you the ability to freely combine the skills tied to each class (for the most part); the game's scope is further expanded by the fact that most items' stats are highly customizable as well. The game does include some lore, which adds to its charm but is not really its main focus. In short, this one is a no-brainer if you like mindless combat, loot and assigning skill/stat points (and a little bit of gambling as well). If not for the fact that the online portion of the game is basically dead, I would have happily paid money for this.

Quite fun
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
This is an extraordinarily badly made, amateurish top down "Diablo" type ripoff, intended to be a kind of MMO RPG, only, for obvious reasons, nobody played it. But, you know, I better get into those reasons, no matter how obvious they are. This really feels like a backyard project, everything is clunky, janky... you won't get a fun fantasy RPG gaming experience here. The menus are hideous, the assets awful (pretty sure all those icons are plagiarised too), the game design is on par with all of that... truly a shambles of a game. If it can be called that. This is the kind of game that makes me wonder if amateur developers have any sense of general awareness... did they take one look at their "game" and compare it to the thousands of quality games on Steam and decide to publish anyway? Or did they not know about the other games on Steam? I have a feeling it just boils down to the old amateur developer "center of the world" main character thing... they publish the garbage they made so they can feel good about themselves, without considering how all this Steam Direct amateur junk just pollutes up the store. So, "Spellwake" is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. Competition amongst PvP centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost. First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the Game. They lost that bet. Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency. There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. This game is fairly dated at 7 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options. And, as a game that relies on other players, of which there are none, it can't really be played anyway.
Terrible UI Terrible graphics Terrible animation But who cares? It's a pretty fun waste of time. Easily worth the $0 I paid.
D4 bad, Spellwake good.
this game is absolutely amazing for what it is. i just really wish they would add more classes more skills and items even though there are alot already.
fun game, it has depth in terms of build and loot/craft system. it's fun to play with friends but also good single. although it has some tutorials, it generally lacks explanations so you need to explore and learn a little bit yourself.
