3/10 A seemingly in-development bare-bones RPG. Good: - the 3D models and the textures are quite nice. The environment looks great, especially for a free indie game. Trees and other objects have a black contour (post-processing?) which adds a certain style - the music is fine So-so: - it seems to have the common RPG elements like an inventory, quests, crafting, trading with a vendor and battling monsters. But there is no story (?). The starting cutscene shows some planet and ends with "tyrannies" but it's unclear what's all about - 2D art of the UI is passable but not great Bad: - mouse cursor disappears at random. E.g. when I first launched the game it wasn't shown and I had to navigate menus with WASD. During the game the cursor would sometimes appear and sometimes disappear. Also, initially the mouse controls the character's facing. But then suddenly it worked like in WoW: drag left mouse to rotate the character. I don't know, it's just broken - the fonts are atrocious: there is some Gothic-style font used for longer texts that's too hard to read (e.g. the first quest is just a huge single paragraph). In other places it's standard Arial (?). Also, text labels don't fit the dialogs. This creates a messy look and an impression this game is some student's quick prototype (which is in stark contrast with the 3D models and environments) - battles seem to have been taken from RPGMaker? There are idiotic "press E" confirmations to use abilities instead of just a simple click. Battles are horrible. This adds to a feeling that it's an assortment of modules picked here and there, not a meaningful game somebody had a plan for - poor performance. I have Nvidia GTX1050, even on the "low" gfx setting it lagged for me. Overall it's a mix of random amateurish stuff with possibly purchased professional assets(?). Or a project done by students of widely varying ability level. Some of the flaws just show an extreme level of laziness: the banner in Steam library is stretched horizontally. I mean, how much would one not care about his game if he wouldn't even scale an image properly. That costs literally nothing to fix. Technically, the game is playbable. And even parts of it look nice. But it's nowhere nearly finished or releasable.
Before I played Spawn Kings, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
Spawn Kings is a really neat free single player game, I'm a big fan of the turn based combat. Love the party system where members of your party actually appear in the world and run around the world with you, that is so cool and awesome! A minor suggestion I have is to allow the player to name their heroes and party members once they have joined. This game reminds me if World of Warcraft was single player w/ Turn Based Combat. It has quests, gear, loot, party member who you collect and unlock plus its turn based. I look forward to this games future updates.
