SUMMARY: A kind of playable fantasy novel that mixes RPG, datesim, social sim, and kingdom manager - and with a twisty time-travel mechanic. Become Soverign of a land thanks to a mysterious tower, rally knights, solve quests, and maybe get in very, very far over your head. Time may be at your command as well, but choices aren't as clear as you may think . . . So in a simple summary, this is a gorgeous-looking mix of several genres - datesim, social sim, kingdom builder, and RPG, all wrapped in a visual novel style. But the excellent writing and branching plots, plus an interesting time travel mechanic make it something special. So what's it about? You've just become Sovereign of the land. Not long ago you were an leper, an outcast taking refuge in a church, on the run from soldiers of the deadly Empire. But now you've been chosen by the mysterious Tower to be the first Sovereign in 100 years. The future of the kingdom is in your hands, and perhaps great power that may make you not just ruler, but free of your diseases and perhaps more . . . The game follows a simple cycle where you can make choices: AUDIENCES: Each day you can take audiences with people getting quests, requests, making decisions, recruiting allies, and more. Your choices here will lead to multiple other plotlines. THE TOWER: With audiences done you can travel about your Tower, and you may perhaps: * Forge equipment, repair armor, and acquire new resources. * Strategize. Gossip. Investigate. * Build out your tower with the mysterious Lady. * Chat with your Knights and staff. * And much more. As you expand your tower, there's more to do. QUESTS: Send your knights on quests. The right person with the right skills and inclination, and perhaps the right equipment, can change the course of adventure or unlock new options. Bad choices lead to failure and maybe even dead knights. Successful knights raise reputations and bring in equipment, resources, and perhaps surprises. The game leads to a simple cycle of making choices of how to interact with the world, learning and purchasing and equipping, and then chosing how Knights handle issues. But the game's many potential storylines and different interactions can lead to surprises. But if something goes wrong or not the way you want? Well there's a mysterious lock in the basement that holds a demon with a voice that might seem familiar. It can revert time, and it claims there's no price for it. It may be true in that regard, but no price doesn't mean it's not without an agenda. Maybe it's not on your side - but maybe you're not on its either . . . The result is an extremely compelling game filled with twists and turns, memorable characters, and complex options all accesseed through simple menus. It's easy to start playing, but the complexities - and the ability to rewind time - make it more compelling. The writing and art is top-notch. The game has its own look and feel, the setting feels "lived in," the characters are memorable, and you find yourself wanting to know more. So will you like it? Well the best option is to play the Demo! But if for some reason you don't want to, here's who I'd reccomend the game to: * If you like plot-heavy visual novel type games but also like RPG mechanics. * If you don't mind - or actually enjoy - the ability to repeat and tweak game elements. * If you like fusion game systems. * If you really like story-heavy games with unusual mechanics. For me, I like games of interacting characters and RPG mechanics, plus the complex and interacting plot threads. It's compelling and interesting, and I want find out what happens next!
this is a really good game - beyond a visual novel, it's a management sim (and an actually fun one at that, sorry) with charming characters, fun worldbuilding, and gorgeous art and UX to boot. savescumming is a legit integrated mechanic in this game and it adds insane replayability by you retaining knowledge from previous runs/before rewinds. i played the demo and bought this game as soon as i saw it was out, so excited to see what other paths are available

We got good, bad, and ugly here, mostly bad and ugly though. I do not recommend this game, Sovereign’s plot was engaging and stayed compelling all the way through to the end, which was a pleasant surprise. I can't say the same for Sovereign’s gameplay loop. It is incredibly tedious and does not change one bit after you get through the intro. You don't notice it on your first playthrough because every choice felt nerve-wracking, so you spend a lot of time hemming and hawing before you loop around. The loop: - Check the bottom left for conversations with knights so you can hit on them. - Click through people asking for help. 90% of the requests are just stat changes, 10% or fewer have any significant plot development associated with them. - Check the bottom left for conversations with knights so you can hit on them. - Repair knight armor. - Send knights food so you can hit on them. - Optionally talk to the stable groom, potion witch, or a statue so you can hit on them. - Assign knights to quests they like so you can hit on them. - Get quest results. - Rinse. Repeat. The developers tried to be clever about making quest assignment interesting, but it doesn't really work. There's no RNG. Instead, there's a static formula and spice is added by: - Not giving you numbers for stats required. Instead you get a low, medium, high, and max requirement. These roughly correspond to 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10. Once you realize that, the tension around quest assignment just evaporates, because before mid-game you have three different slots to modify whatever stats a particular knight is deficient in. You can simply avoid risks before then and finance your game through the pawn shop, because you'll always be broke, but your knights won't be dead. - Knights have tags like inattentive or heated and you have to guess what these mean for your quest. These add or subtract from the static formula. I sent an inattentive knight to fetch feathers from birds and he fell out of a tree or something, so points were deducted from my formula. - Some quest/knight combos disregard the formula entirely and give you an unexpected outcome, like avoiding combat altogether because of someone's spidey senses. So for the first third of the game you can try to guess what tags mean and hope they offset stat deficiencies…or not. Sovereign locks a good amount of content behind a NG+ option that appears at the end of any given run. You can't start a new game with NG+, it's only available at the end of each run. This is incredibly annoying because it is not even the slightest bit interesting enough to suffer through that gameplay loop for another 50 rounds. It is also not a well-done NG+. There are so many missed opportunities here, the biggest being developing a game that doesn't suck: - For the love of Bob, I don't want to click into the kitchen every single time to send a stupid crepe. Tracking what their favorites are is pointless because they all like multiple things, almost everyone likes crepes, and everything costs the same amount. - Clicking into the spy maid's room every time to get results and assign more spying was also painfully tedious. There's literally no reason to spy on anyone in any particular order, and spying doesn't cost you anything, so all this does is add 20 more pointless clicks to every round. - Most of the potions are stupid as heck. Why are there three agility potions? So many stats have just a cheapo +1 potion. Come on now. - Inventory management sucks. Looking at your inventory, the only way to tell which knight has which item equipped is through a tiny icon in the corner of the item. Three of them are silver/gray colored knights. Two are gold colored knights. Two are purple colored knights. What are you people doing? Just put the name in a label or tooltip. - Inventory management continues to suck because there's no sorting or filtering of any kind. If you have all 20 horses, because they all look the same, you're clicking through every single one and you can't even muscle-memory it because the order reshuffles every round, so the equipped horses are all dumped at the end. Same goes for weapons. - There should be an option to undo individual choices if not at first definitely in NG+. - There needs to be an actual log of all plot developments and changes during a NG+. - Carry over more to NG+ not just knowledge and RP stats. - Need an RNG option to make taking a chance on quests where you're under-equipped at all interesting. Tags pretty much just nudge success toward great success or critical success. They never really affect success or failure. - There's basically no risk of anyone ever leaving based on your choices. You have to actively terrorize someone to get their affinity down that low. The affinity system is meaningless beyond like four lines of spicy dialogue and different ending slides. I am absolutely convinced the critical success of Sovereign Tower (and Esoteric Ebb and Dispatch) is driven in large part by lonely people blushing because they got to flirt with anything that moved while pretending it’s still a real sci-fi/fantasy game. If you really just here for a romance VN there are many many better ones that don’t make you click 100 times a round to hit on a statue.
I just find the worldbuilding and the characters to be so entertaining. I love the artstyle and the music. My only request is for a poly mode because I want to do a run where I'm a huge flirt.
Absolutely fantastic, game of the year contender for me. Between the brilliant art, fun writing, and engaging mechanics, I could barely put this down before I hit credits the first time and then wanted to go right back in again.
Simplesmente incrível! É basicamente um Dispatch medieval com Reigns. O visual desse jogo é lindo e charmoso demais.
my bravest knight... come hither... mmmwah !! ok u are dismissed
