The game is really cute and fun~ All the characters are really likeable. Gameplay seems simple at first, but then it gets more complex as you get further into the game. I like the brew mechanic as I thought it was a really creative way to enable players to create different strategies, there's a lot of depth.
As you can probably tell I haven't finished this game yet, but I still wanted to share my thoughts so far! ( And I will update it once I get through it) Sovereign Tea is a great game for folks that love strategy games like Fire Emblem with a more lax story line. The writing is witty, the art is gorgeous, and I've enjoyed the combat so far! Interested to see how everything evolves over time but I definitely would recommend this to folks ( and to check out other games by 3 Halves Games on itch.io!! Specificall War of the Lillies) EDIT: Ok I'm almost done with the game I don't know why I said it was silly LOL. (Probably because early on Mint is bothering the other princesses haha and some tropey stuff) There's some deep lore in here and lots of war drama (again somewhat similar to Fire Emblem) and I do want to beat this at some point! My only complaint with this game is the later levels can drag on a bit and I wish it was possible to save during a level so you could go back to turn X etc. It's no biggie and I still recommend it, but be ready to need those in-game hints towards the end of the game!
It's a shame this game seems to have flown under everyone's radar. I'm not done with it yet but it's really good. The gameplay took a while to get used to but it's just the right amount of challenging. The writing and characters are surprisingly complex and well written.
It's good to play another tactics game. I really enjoy the combat, it rewards you for playing tactically. The units have interesting abilities, that interact with each other in ways that feel rewarding to discover. The art style is solid and endearing.
girlboss on girlboss violence has never been this compelling
Cute art, challenging gameplay.
Final Rating: 3.5 / 10 Cute concept, but repetitive, grind-heavy, and ultimately unrewarding. A game that frustrates more than it entertains.
I am very biased, as an avid tea lover. But what a gem of a game! It is utterly beyond charming with its lovely soundtrack, the adorable tea brew designs as well as the characters we follow. The number of different powers your units and the enemy has are wonderful! The gameplay, especially in the later levels, can be quite slow. Because in the first couple of turns you aren't really able to do much damage generally and the coffee brews often have a decent amount of health. But that just means this is more of a relax/laidback kind of game. My biggest gripe with this game is the story. For I find the story very interesting, but! I do get annoyed at the continues "I will ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ murder you filthy coffee regent" to "We're not so different you and I, let's become best friends". Like it's fine it that happens, and it happens well. But it happens the whole bloody time, it was getting annoying at the end and made me care much less about the overall story. I still enjoyed all the little conversations you were able to have at the fort; those were always great! All in all, merely for it being a tea centred game I'd recommend it. But besides that, it is also just a really well-crafted little experience.
