Sons of the Forest is a beautiful yet terrifying survival game. It offers amazing freedom and a tense atmosphere, but it stumbles heavily when it comes to the story. The game shines brightest in its building mechanics. Instead of just clicking menus, building feels physical and realistic. You manually chop logs, split planks, and snap them into place. Whether you want to build a small cabin or a massive fortress, the creative freedom is incredible. Though it feels a bit tame when you start to focus on the main history. It simply becomes irrelevant. While the gameplay is great, the main story struggles heavily. The plot is told through scattered notes and confusing cutscenes that leave you with more questions than answers. Sadly, the ending feels very flat and rushed. After hours of intense survival and building, the final payoff is deeply unsatisfying. Would have appreciated a more intens boss fight at the end. Overall I would not recommend this game for the story, which is the most important part for me. The building stuff and atmosphere is indeed great.
