Target Audience: Um..... Summary: Look, I hate writing reviews like this. But Side Quest is the blandest of action games that needs to understand where it fails: it's an side-scrolling action game that doesn't execute anything well, and doesn't have any appeal. The gameplay is basic in the worse ways: as the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid) is misused in the wrong way: it's so basic, it's boring. You can get combat variety in several ways, you don't need combos even if you use level design/enemy design/visual flair correctly, but Side Quest does none of those. The game has shown you exactly what it has to offer within the first 15 minutes (for the most part), and really doesn't take it from there. It's also a technical mess: art assets are inconsistent and the game has portions where the hit detection doesn't work at all. Look, I don't like being brutal with new developers like this, but in order for them to improve, you have to be. And needless to say, Side Quest doesn't do the job at any level: it fails to get the attention. Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdmKgmgaHrc Lists: Positives:

The one boss fight is better then most of the game.....
It's got a couple of nice art assets.
Maybe you'll get a laugh out of the awkward dialogue
Negatives:

Boring. Boring Boring Boring. No pizzaz, no it factor, no oompf. Way too basic to keep anyone’s attention over time.
Repetitive. You've got a melee/ranged attack, and be ready to repeatedly use them over and over and over again. Because that's all you're going to do.
I hate to say this, but I literally feel asleep playing the game.
Game is short from what I see. Even though I really didn't want to play anymore after an hour, it's got achievements to beat the game under 40 minutes. And with not a lot of replay value, that could be a problem.
Hit detection problems in several places, despite being in clear range of hitting the enemy.
Art assets are all over the place, and don't seem to fit the same art style with each other.
Missing options like the ability to turn off music. Glitchy at times.
If you want more reviews/information regarding games I've reviewed, visit my curator. I like what I see, but I am unsure if this game is working properly. The Xbox controller does not work, and, the Steam Link controller, nor keyboard work during the "Challenges" It says to press "K" and the "X" button, and I do, but nothing is happening. It does not shoot, or do anything but flash when I press it. Not sure if this means I have to come back to this level again to do the Challenge, but I find it odd to believe that this would be required to do nearly the moment you start the game. Very sad this is happening, because this does look like a fun game. I just wish that "full controller support" meant "full controller support"
Sensacional! Um jogo simples com uma boa jogabilidade e dialogos muito engraçados. Recomendo!
For games where you play a chef I'll take burgertime over this any day. The idea and story are pretty good but the controls are really awkward. The graphics are all over the place. Some characters and environments are really nice and others look like they are from a first generation iPhone game.
Bem humorado e divertido.
Fortunately, the game is short, so the wonky combat and issues will not be a major source of frustration for you. The story's main hero is a chef who only wants to deliver his food, but a wizard quickly draws him into a larger mission. He equips him with magnificent armor and weapons and sends him on a rescue mission. Despite the 3D graphics and freedom-like aspect, the game lives up to its name. Although the hero can only walk left or right, he can do it on two distinct planes. This is vital because there is no jump button or shield to protect yourself. Switching planes function similarly to a dodge because they allow you to avoid projectiles. Naturally, opponents can change planes as well. Each stage is straightforward and takes place in a distinct setting. You begin in the castle dungeon and proceed to the graveyard, forest, and several other locations. A stage may have a secondary challenge indicated by a large door. Beating it usually gets you a new piece of equipment. The first, for example, provides you with a magical staff capable of firing projectiles. You can ignore these tasks, but it will make the game more difficult because you will miss better gear. Enemies in your path include the typical fantasy varieties such as goblins, zombies, dragons, and so on. They die after a few strikes, so this isn't a button-mashing game where you have to whack basic opponents for a minute. They are not smart since they will shoot arrows at their friends if they are on the same plane. Enemies drop nothing because there are no upgrades or shops in the game. Because there are no healing supplies, you must regain health at checkpoints. You also return to them after your death, but this can be painful because there aren't that many checkpoints in a stage. The gameplay is acceptable, but comes with issues. One problem is that your attacks occasionally miss. This happens when you turn before the sword strikes an enemy. However, the bigger problem is connected to your attack speed. Normal circumstances are OK, but the game frequently traps you into a conflict with enemies from both sides. Your sword is very slow, so you frequently have to take a hit because you have nowhere to run. The character’s slow speed becomes almost unbearable in the third stage that introduces knights. This enemy is very unfair because it has a quick crossbow attack that’s impossible to dodge if you’re too close. Since getting close is the only way to cause damage – unless you attack from afar with a very weak magical staff – you’re pretty much sentenced to cheap damage. Hitting enemy from behind causes more damage, but there are constant obstacles in the middle of the road that prevent plane switching. Optimization is a bit surprising because there was some stuttering in the cemetery level. It was not present anywhere else. There’s also one bug that can freeze your character if you Alt-Tab out of the game at the wrong time. Achievements are not fun to collect because they depend too much on bad mechanics. Stuff like not getting hit, dying, and getting a high combo are very frustrating. Some can be acquired right away by watching credits, including a speed-runner achievement for beating the game in under 40 minutes. Since the game is short, some achievements want you to play the game at least twice.
Cool spin on a dungeon crawler if you can even call it that. More like a beat em up almost. Graphics are kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ but they have some charm. Unfortunately it has too many bugs to recommend.
Jogo Brasileiro. De qualidade. Simples, mas bom! Só por isso já vale o investimento! Vamos fomenar a indústria de games nacional!
Beat-'m up divertido com uma curva de dificuldade boa pra quem gosta de desafios.
