The negative reviews almost scared me off, but I'm glad I stuck with it because I've been enjoying Civ 7 immensely. I've been playing Civ since the very beginning, and Civ 7 feels like a natural progression from 6. The ability to change your civilisation throughout the ages feels like a breath of fresh air (you do have the option to NOT do that and stick with the civ you started as), but I wish there were more achievements. Civ 6 had hundreds of super-specific achievements, and 7 feels lacking in that regard. Imagine my disappointment when I put a Stone Head next to a temple and didn't see a "Legends of the Hidden Temple" achievement appear at the bottom of my screen. I am enjoying the ability to level up the leaders and unlock new abilities. It's been a nice change and encourages replays as a leader, as well as granting you some pretty nice buffs for leveled leaders. Navigable rivers has been a godsend, being able to put a city inland and still access the ocean has been a MASSIVE improvement and has fundamentally changed city building. City-states maintain their usefulness and the ability to peacefully absorb them into your civilisation is fantastic, but man do they grow slowly unless you spend diplomatic capital on improving them. When you become a Suzerain, you become more responsible for the city-state growth than in previous games; it almost feels like they refuse to grow on their own unless you force them to. I wish they had more autonomy in their growth, but I guess that's why we have mods. Speaking of mods, the robust modding scene for 7 is fantastic. Modders are once again carrying the game, adding all the fixes and buttons for things we wish we had in the base game. I'll be real, without modders, Civ and most other popular games wouldn't survive as long as they do, so having a huge library of available mods to tweak the game and get it just right has been great. Big shoutout to the modders for keeping the game fresh and letting us do what we really want. I'm gonna touch on the DLC for a second: wait for the sales. As it is with most Civ games (any game with DLC, really), DLC pricing can be a comedy routine most of the time, so wait for them to go on sale. The DLC is great, but man, those prices will drive the air from your lungs. Wait for a sale if you want to snap them up. Anyway, this has been a long enough ramble. Would I recommend Civ 7? Yeah, but do your due diligence and read some reviews. Even if a lot of them are negative one-line reviews, they all tell a piece of a story, and its a story you should read before buying the game. This is a positive review based solely on my own experience, and I haven't touched on a lot of stuff that other people have problems with. You owe it to yourself to form as complete an opinion as possible before deciding to spend your money.
good
+ Very beautiful game; + Better system of communication with city-state; + Better influence of benefits from city-states; + Better organization for armies with comanders; - Terrible UI; - Terrible the system of three ages, which breaks an atmosphere; - Illogical choice in each age a new nation with new bonuses; - Price! (DLCs for half of price of main game!? Oh! Come on!..) P.S. Civ 6 has simpler systems, but more logical. That's why in Civ 6 I played 319.2 hours and Civ 7 - only 18.1 hours.
No sé Rick.
they should call this game natural disaster simulater, every civ near me always ends up teaming up against me which is fine i guess but fighting two war fronts while bieng hit by every active volcano, flood, blizzard and thunder storm at once or two turns after each other while trying to sue for peace just to try have fun gets very annoying very fast
unsure why there is so much hate. I like it.
~18 months after release it still feels undercooked? I genuinely like some of the changes, I think merging barbarians into city states is brilliant, and sailable rivers are cool. I think the espionage system being orders given through influence points is a nice smoothing of micromanagement over the previous iterations where you needed to actually move spies around. That said, they also made traders require MORE management now, so 1 step forward 1 step back on that front. Commanders are really neat. That said... really BASIC functionality that I'd expect to be here just... isn't, and that feels weird to me? You can't shift-click to queue techs or civics. You can still "queue" them by picking something further down the tree, but the game won't let you decide the order, and you can't say "finish this one research here THEN go research this" and I can't understand why something that fundamental would be missing. Lafayette's leader ability, when prompting me as a recipient, in both instances seemed to have the "support" option show up in middle slot with "accept" on the left-hand side, when I think... every other offer I got was the opposite? I almost picked the wrong choice a couple of times on that and I don't know why it's reversed only for that. The game's graphics are visually very pretty but this has come at the cost of parsability, I find it much harder to tell what buildings are which at a glance, which can make understanding what a city is (especially enemy cities) take a lot longer as I need to mouse over each tile. I was glad to try it for a week, but after 1 finished game in the Exploration Era (starting difficulty too low, won "Crushing Victory") and then making it the modern era just before the trial ended... I'm pretty meh about it. I wouldn't pay full rate and I'm not williing to pay 50% off now, because I don't think I'd play it if I didn't have the looming limited time to try it looming over me. I hope it gets better because I've been playing since Civ 2 but this doesn't feel like it.
First act : I wasn't sure if I was going to buy it, as there is a lack of information about why things are producting stuff. Secnod act : I was starting to enjoy myself, as I got immersed in the exploration phase. Trial ended : Still unsure I'm going to buy it. I would have taken a few more days of play (1-2 hours per day) to complete the trial. Ah well, maybe next time!
