About
SHOUT-AI is a short electronic horror visual novel set inside a broken horror game called SHOUT.
The player thought they had launched a free game. Instead, a girl named Yoka appears on the other side of the screen. She calls herself something like a bug, something like an error that should have been reported, and guides you through a town where no one is left.
The town contains a residential district, a station, a square, a river, an archive, a shelter, and a rooftop. There are no people anywhere. Rain can be heard even when it is not falling. A station with no rails says there is no next train. A clock tower is stopped at 04:44.
Choices do not appear as a normal menu. They appear as separate windows on the screen. Some move randomly. Some return after being closed. Screen noise, glitches, blackouts, sudden volume changes, and fake code logs create the impression that something is happening on the PC, but the game does not execute external commands, modify user files, or perform network communication.
Was Yoka really inside the game? Or was she something you created to escape from a broken world?

Unfortunately, the game just didn't work for me at all. Story-wise, I figured out early on where it was all headed—which isn't a bad idea for a horror game.... But the execution was disastrous. Just throwing a few random lines out there, only to then listen to yet another monologue that’s more clichés than anything else, made me want to just skip through everything after two-thirds of the game—and that was it. No “Outside” can be so bad that you’d want to subject yourself to this AI for hours on end. (You’ll understand once you’ve finished the story.) The music, by the way, is completely out of place and doesn’t fit the game at all.
