CHAPTER 2 TODAY
Scrap Mechanic can be summarized with one phrase: what a tedious grind. The first thing new players will notice is the lack of easy healing. Early on, your main source of healing is corn. Every piece has to be selected, then you must hold the mouse button for a second or two before your character finally eats it. The amount of health restored is tiny, meaning you'll often spend 10–20 seconds standing still just to recover from a single fight. A better option is to feed corn to Wocs and drink their milk, but that is hardly an improvement. You still spend a considerable amount of time feeding cows before you can continue playing. The game also teases Flower Tea by scattering flowers everywhere, yet you cannot actually craft it but only find it. Once you start farming, the game introduces raids. Every time you plant crops, robots attack after a minute. Early on, you have almost no defenses, poor healing, and no ranged weapon, so the optimal strategy becomes planting tiny batches of crops just to keep the raids manageable. Instead of encouraging you to expand your farm, the game actively discourages it. Combat doesn't help either. The sledgehammer has a surprisingly small effective hitbox despite using wide horizontal swing animations. Hits only seem to register directly in the center of the crosshair, making melee combat feel awkward and unreliable. Considering how long it takes to obtain your first gun, this makes the opening hours far more frustrating than they need to be. Progression is equally slow. Essential tools are locked behind trader deliveries, forcing you to grow dozens of tomatoes, pack them into crates, and haul them to the trader just to unlock basic schematics like the Drill. Until then, gathering metal is slow since only Haybots have a chance to drop it, and much of your time is spent repeatedly clearing the same or similar looking points of interest. The game also lacks a proper map. If you drive somewhere, explore on foot, die, and respawn at your base, recovering your vehicle becomes an unnecessary chore. For a game centered around exploration and vehicles, this feels like a strange omission. Ironically, despite the title, Scrap Mechanic spends much of its early game feeling more like a farming simulator than a vehicle-building game. Building machines is where the game shines, but it takes far too long before you are allowed to enjoy that part to your hearts content. After spending nearly ten years in Early Access, I expected a much more complete experience. The world contains several biomes, but they are sparse, the points of interest quickly become repetitive, and enemy variety remains very limited. I cannot recommend Scrap Mechanic at its current price of $28.99. There are simply too many other survival crafting games - such as Valheim, Enshrouded, Palworld, or RuneScape: Dragonwilds - that offer a more engaging and fun progression loop, interesting and satisfying combat in a world worth exploring.
Not an enjoyable experience. I've watched people play it for hours before buying. Thought that I would give it a chance because you never know. I didn't think PalWorld had a chance in being enjoyable for me but 100 hours later I was wrong. That said: I don't care about the tutorial/information being minimal. It's not an enjoyable experience for a lot of reasons. Healing is a significant problem. You're punished if you attempt to grow food to solve this problem. Combat is not enjoyable. Items you need to craft the very first item required to progress are incredibly rare and very annoying to get. Had this been 1/2 the price I would keep it, but I'm deciding whether to refund. I don't see myself enjoying this.
sorry not worth the money, the game is boring and no life.

After 6 years of development, this is what we got: -6 new enemies, 4 of them being simple recolors. -The food system removed from a survival game. -New dungeons with nothing inside. You only enter it because the quest forces you to. -Crafting progression locked behind boring MMO-style fetch quests. Want to unlock a recipe? Go bring an NPC 12 tomatoes. -Blocking removed from combat — even though you can still block with the hammer in Creative Mode. -0 new biomes. -0 new ruins, still the same Copy-Paste world as before. You turned a sandbox into a linear game Congratulations. You can literally see more effort put into Steam Workshop content than into this update. At this point, you're better off playing a Minecraft tech modpack.
The game has huge potential, but after the update, it’s practically unplayable. Dear developers, what did you do to the optimization and physics?! It’s just awful. Now, in Survival mode, I can’t make interesting (simple!) mechanisms because the FPS drops to 13–20. I just can’t play properly with my friends. They’re having FPS issues too. Please fix the physics—it’s practically impossible to play with controllers! The suspension is broken now too... When I drive on a platform made of blocks, the car starts shaking. I love this game, but the new physics have become just awful. T_T
I've tried playing this game twice now, once on initial release, once this week. Why does the initial 2 hours of the game feel like they want you to refund the game before you get to any content? The literal FIRST thing you have to do, is walk back and forth with a single bucket, 3 times, to put out a fire. Pure waste of time. Then you finally build a small pre-designed vehicle. But with wheels so bad that driving just doesn't feel fun. And then finally you are tasked to collect 10 macGuffins to get started with actual content, but not how to get them, or where, and actually killing enemies for them takes quite a bit of time this early on. So you feel this is what the game is. Mindless timewasting tasks, Bad driving physics, and fetch quests. The initial 2 hours of this game needs a full re-design before i'll try this a 3rd time.
dev team is a joke
