Sandustry is my first factory game, and I went into it pretty sure this sort of thing was not going to be for me. I saw NerdCubed play it and thought I might as well give it a go. Three days later and Ive done nothing else. I have done very little that was not somehow related to moving sand around. I have been going to bed thinking about the factory, waking up thinking about the factory, and at this point if I close my eyes I can see little dots of colour slowly falling. My sleep schedule is screwed and my brain has apparently decided this is its full time job now. I have finished everything I can currently do, which should be the natural point to stop and wait for more content. Instead I I am going to load it up again tomorrow anyway. Would recommend.
way harder that expected though i did have to rebuild everything multipile times because of my incopentence
Interesting game, a little complex at points and you will find yourself really hating the fact you can't zoom out to get a wider view of things.
In it's current state- I would recommend most people to wait. At 8 hours I reached the end and there is literally zero use for anything anymore- no "sink", just pointless after completion. That being said- for factory/automation nuts, go for it. It's Terraria with factory lines. Little bit of Terraria-ish exploration and digging, but most of your time is spent doing simple automation on the surface. There's clearly a lot more coming- underground sections preview some wiring, switches, detectors etc that I look forward to using in future builds. I enjoyed it and I'll definitely come back for the finished game someday. :)
I don't like the sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating--not like you. You're soft and smooth
As a big fan of Satisfactory, Factorio and other automation games, I had an absolute blast with Sandustry, even in its current Early Access state. So much so that I ended up completing every available achievement, and had a genuinely fun time doing it. The automation is obviously the big draw, but what really makes Sandustry stand out is the way the world itself plays into it. Having every pixel essentially behave as a resource, with liquids, sand and other materials physically interacting with the environment, adds a really interesting twist to the usual factory-building formula. There's something incredibly satisfying about starting with basically nothing and gradually turning a chunk of the world into a sprawling mess of belts, pipes, machines and increasingly complicated production chains. Progression also feels really well paced. There's almost always another problem to solve, resource to automate or bit of the factory that you suddenly realise could be doing things much more efficiently. It scratches exactly the same "I'll just fix this one thing..." itch that the best automation games do, and then suddenly another couple of hours have disappeared. There's obviously plenty of room for more content, particularly once you've worked your way through everything currently available, but that's exactly what I'd expect from a game this early into Early Access. What's already here feels remarkably polished and, more importantly, the core gameplay loop is already really bloody good. If you're a fan of games like Satisfactory or Factorio, I'd absolutely recommend giving Sandustry a go. It has enough of the familiar automation-game DNA to immediately feel comfortable, while doing enough differently with its destructible, physics-driven world to have its own identity. Really looking forward to following the game and its solo dev through the rest of the game's development journey. If this is the starting point for Early Access, I'm very excited to see where it ends up.
