A quick little platformer. There is some innovative booty clenching sections, but it is fair at the end of the day. Would recommend for those who are into difficult ragers.
ragebait fish game

Salmon...... please don't fall again
Salmon Tower turns the unlikely journey of a determined fish into a demanding movement-based platforming adventure. Developed and published by Oolong Studios, it follows a salmon attempting to travel from the ocean and climb toward the summit of a towering structure. The premise is intentionally strange, but underneath the humor is a focused game built around momentum, precision, repeated attempts, and mastery of an unconventional movement system. It is designed as a relatively short experience, yet its mechanics encourage players to replay difficult sections and gradually become more efficient. Controlling the salmon is the heart of the experience. Swimming provides the foundation for building speed, while dashing, gliding, and jump-boosting allow that momentum to be converted into distance and height. Success is less about making ordinary platforming jumps and more about understanding how velocity carries between different actions. Chaining several dashes together can create impressive bursts of speed, and learning when to preserve or redirect that momentum becomes increasingly important as the climb grows more complicated. The controls can initially feel unpredictable because the protagonist does not behave like a conventional platforming character, but that unusual handling is also responsible for much of the game's identity. The level design takes advantage of these mechanics by presenting obstacles that require experimentation as well as mechanical skill. A destination may appear impossible to reach until the player discovers a better position for building speed or a more effective sequence of boosts. This creates a rewarding learning curve in which personal improvement is immediately noticeable. Sections that once required numerous attempts can eventually be crossed smoothly, making progress feel like the result of genuine mastery rather than simply acquiring stronger abilities. Its semi-Foddian approach makes failure particularly meaningful. Mistakes can cost valuable progress, so difficult sections generate more tension than they would in a forgiving platformer with constant checkpoints. This design will naturally divide players. Those who enjoy overcoming frustrating challenges can find the eventual success extremely satisfying, while anyone who dislikes repetition or losing progress may find certain moments exhausting. Fortunately, the game is structured as a compact challenge rather than an enormous campaign, keeping its demanding nature from becoming unnecessarily prolonged. Replayability receives considerable support from its speedrunning-oriented features. Time splits encourage players to compare individual sections of a run, while ghost functionality provides an immediate visual reference for previous performances. These additions transform completion into only one possible objective. After reaching the top, dedicated players can concentrate on optimizing movement, experimenting with alternate approaches, reducing mistakes, and improving completion times. Secrets and a collection of Steam achievements provide additional goals for players who prefer exploration and completion over pure speedrunning. Visually, Salmon Tower embraces a retro-inspired appearance rather than pursuing technical spectacle. This works well with its deliberately eccentric premise and mechanically focused design. The environments primarily exist to provide interesting spaces through which the salmon can swim, launch, climb, and occasionally tumble backward after a badly judged maneuver. The atmosphere can move between playful absurdity and slightly unsettling territory, giving the journey enough character to prevent it from feeling like a collection of disconnected platforming challenges. The overall scope should be understood before playing. This is not intended to be a lengthy narrative adventure filled with extensive progression systems or dozens of hours of conventional content. Its value instead comes from replaying a concentrated set of challenges and improving through practice. Players who simply complete the objective once may experience a relatively brief game, whereas completionists and speedrunners can extract considerably more entertainment by searching for secrets, earning achievements, and pursuing faster runs. Steam Deck compatibility is currently listed as Unknown or Unverified rather than carrying an official Verified or Playable designation. The game's relatively lightweight technical requirements and movement-focused structure may make handheld play seem promising, but the absence of an official compatibility rating means Steam Deck users should not assume that every aspect of the experience will function perfectly without adjustment. Salmon Tower ultimately succeeds because it commits to a simple but memorable idea and develops meaningful mechanics around it. The salmon protagonist is more than a visual joke, since swimming, momentum, dashing, and launching naturally shape how every challenge is approached. It will appeal most strongly to players who enjoy precision platformers, physics-based movement, speedrunning, repeated attempts, and the satisfaction of turning an initially awkward control system into something fluid and deliberate. Its limited length and potentially frustrating setbacks prevent it from being universally appealing, but as a focused free-to-play challenge with an unusual personality and surprisingly deep movement mechanics, it offers a distinctive experience. Rating: 8/10
