Instant death instant death instant death. That is exactly what you'll get out of this game. Difficulty is fine, but it must be stressed that it needs to be fair which this game seems to actively avoid being. A standard run is like this: begin play until you meet a sudden unavoidable death. Play again through again until you meet that obstacle and carefully navigate around it until meeting your next unavoidable death. Repeat af nauseum. The problem with this is that there aren't any real gameplay elements to break up the tedium of rote memorisation of these hazards, which makes it not so much a game as a monotonous test of patience.

Soooo funny! You die lots of times, in some hilarious ways. Traps are challeging and you have to discover how to avoid them, needing some witness and skills. I'm trying to compete in the ranking! Retro look and feel makes it still better, it reminds me some of those video games rooms from the 90's. Good investment!

For a game whose description jokes about firing their game designer, Safe Climbing clearly applied the right lessons. Control is good but teeters on the edge of cruel movement, so you always feel that you're responsible for your death even though the character's movement could have been a little more precise. Checkpoints ensure progression for the dedicated, so you rarely feel too frustrated. Every one or two sections will have a spot that gets you. For me, it took a long minute to figure out the pickaxe. Later it was a meteor strike. Other parts look hard and feel difficult and you'll feel proud of how often you get through successfully. Either you're looking for a troll game or you aren't. If you are, Safe Climbing fits the bill. If you aren't, then Safe Climbing is a good entry into the genre.
