From the first moment, there are problems with this game. The first menu only works if your mouse is to the left of the menu. But, then playing the game is a chore. Controls are slippery, enemies all die in two hits, and I have no idea where the game is even set as the backgrounds are terrible. I take on step, only to get a cut scene that was a still frame. That may have been on purpose, but I'm not sure. Part of the reason I'm not sure is that I had to hit Escape after it ended to go back to the game, only to be taken to another menu. Graphics and sound are like a free game with little effort. You can get Darkenstein 3D for free and see how a modern boomer shooter could be. Or play any of the many others on Steam worth your money. Special note: One of the voice actors reviewed Sacrificio and gave it a 5 out of 10. That's a bad sign right there.
Howdy, I'm the voice actor for John, Letov's -the main character- seldom-seen companion in his quest to rid the land of evil. Greetings from the great state of Texas, and thank you for supporting a truly independent Brazilian developer. This here is an honest review of the game from my experience so far. I recently bought a new computer, so this may change based on your hardware. Below, I will list my personal thoughts on Sacrifico as it stands the day of release: PROS: 1. Fun gameplay at its core 2. Fun to use weapons 3. Interesting yet simple puzzles 4. Body horror enemies that remind me of games like Dead Space and movies like The Thing 5. Surprisingly good writing, at least in the first 85 minutes of the game, as that's all I've played so far CONS: 1. Guns can be janky 2. You cannot pick up hatchets after throwing 3. Objects, such as the hanging lamps, can break (the lamps themselves stay still as their chains swing freely with the flame attached), thereby breaking immersion 4. Health packs are not nearly abundant as they should be 5. Sound design is lacking in detail and proper audio mixing KNOWN BUGS: 1. When the player "dies", a PNG is put over his screen that says "You Died". This is not a true death, however, as you can still move around, shoot, and even injure monsters and hit objects if you're able to point your gun at them. In addition, when the player loads a save, the PNG remains onscreen and does not go away until you exit the game (PLEASE FIX IMMEDIATELY) 2. The lantern cannot be turned off until you equip a two-handed weapon such as the Winchester Model 1897 3. You cannot click on the items tab in the inventory, as far as I am aware. Either the player remains on the notes tab because it is empty or it does switch over and the transition is simply just too unclear to make certain 4. When pressing the reload button while sprinting, you have to take your fingers off of the keyboard so Letov takes the time to reload. Unsure if this is a bug or not, I will discuss it further in suggestions 5. If you are on low health for long enough, the heartbeat sound effect will eventually cut out, though I consider this more of a blessing than anything SUGGESTIONS TO PULP GAMES: 1. Fix the first mentioned bug as soon as you can, otherwise it renders this game nearly unplayable 2. Make it so that the player does not have to stop moving while sprinting and trying to reload at the same time 3. Make medkits a tad bit more common than they are 4. Most ammo pickups cannot be seen because of how dark it is. You don't have to, but add a faint glowing aura around the item so that players can see them better if they're on the ground 5. In real life, you cannot reload or "top-off" a stripper clip-fed weapon like the Mauser C96. It's more or less a nitpick, but my firearm autism refuses to be silent on this subject. If you find the time, make it so that players cannot reload the Mauser until the internal magazine is completely empty 6. When reloading other weapons, the animation accounts for 5 rounds, even when only 1 round is fired or the magazine or tube is empty, they magically fill up to 8. Again, another nitpick, but please make it so that when the player reloads it is to the correct amount of ammunition that needs to be reloaded 7. Make sure all the parts of the swinging lamps are attached to each other 8. Fix the audio mixing, as I cannot hear Letov's footsteps or those of the enemies. 9. Please make all of the enemies telegraph their presence through sound, much like how Doom did it. That is pretty much all of my thoughts. Overall, there is a very good game buried underneath all the muck and grime of various bugs, but I am confident Pulp Games can make this polished piece of iron into a chunk of solid gold. I give Sacrificio a 5 out of 10 with an eagerness to give it a 10 out of 10 should all the problems I mentioned and whatever other problems people have with it are fixed. Either way, thank you for reading and most importantly, thank you for playing!
