Ryo The Haunted Office is a template flip from Anamik Majumdar, who keeps reskinning the same lame GameMaker Studio game templates and re-releasing them on Steam with a few minor changes. The GameMaker Studio templates he keeps re-releasing are just basic retro pixel (couldn't he rip off a template with proper graphics??) 2D top down/platformer stealth/action games. Here's some other copy + pastes from Anamik of exactly the same game template: The 2D top down retro pixel stealth/darkness template:

Abandoned Croxon Mansion
Arata Haunted Asylum
Axizon Labs: Zombies
Canterz Paranormies
Canterz Paranormies 2
Charles Haunted Mansion
Gaze At Maze
Ghost In The Barn House
Gregor Hills Haunted Hospital
Haunted Jail: Alcatas
Heltons Haunted Hotel
House Number 666
Mello Haunted House
My Haunted Doll
Rescue Rina
Ryo The Haunted Office
Shelley's Haunted House
The Chills
The Haunted Exmone Theatre
The Haunted Tunnel
These are all the exact same game! These are all basically the exact same GameMaker Studio game with a different skin and a couple of things changed. The template itself is called the "2D Survival Horror Game". No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. We can consider this to be asset flipping, in this case only barely more ethical just because it's the developers own assets that keep getting copy + pasted, but the end result for gamers is the same as any Russian asset flip: A fake game with extremely poor quality, no value or merit as a serious game for gamers, polluting Steam and abusing Steam Direct as a cash grab. No matter how many times this guy copy+pastes the same game, it's not suddenly going to become anything but garbage. Rehashing the same game over and over again is just a cheap nasty cash grab. While Anamik Majumdar occasionally breaks Valve guidelines for partners and attacks reviewers, any legitimacy he may have is eradicated by the way he pumps these copy+paste asset flips out and bulk sells keys to crapware bundle merchants like DailyIndieGame. It's also important to note Anamik Majumdar has denied using GameMaker Studio to make his asset flips, despite every single one being made with GameMaker Studio. It's unclear why Anamik Majumdar has been misleading about these templated cash grabs. If you decide to consider buying this game knowing it is just an asset flip copy + paste job, here's some other reasons to avoid it: There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Ryo The Haunted Office has the comically over-optimistic price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Ryo The Haunted Office is a compact indie horror experience developed and published by Anamik Majumdar that transforms an ordinary workplace into the center of a chilling supernatural mystery. The game follows John, a former employee with a fascination for paranormal phenomena, who decides to investigate an office building long rumored to be haunted. What begins as a search for evidence soon becomes a tense journey through dark corridors, abandoned workspaces, and floors filled with disturbing secrets. By choosing an office environment instead of a more traditional haunted location, the game immediately establishes a unique identity and creates a sense of unease from a setting that feels familiar yet strangely unsettling. The story is one of the game's most interesting elements. The haunted office has a history stretching back to the 1970s, when it operated as a demanding workplace known for exhausting schedules and relentless pressure. The narrative centers on the tragic death of an employee who collapsed while working, an event that allegedly sparked the paranormal disturbances that continue to plague the building. This backstory adds more depth than a simple ghost tale, connecting the horror to themes of stress, overwork, and lingering human suffering. As players progress through the building, they gradually uncover more information about its troubled past, making exploration feel meaningful rather than simply a search for jump scares. Gameplay revolves around investigation and survival. Players explore multiple floors while searching for clues, uncovering evidence, and piecing together the truth behind the haunting. The top-down perspective gives the game a retro feel and encourages careful observation of the environment. Instead of relying heavily on combat, the experience focuses on suspense and atmosphere, rewarding players who take their time to inspect every room and follow the trail of mysterious events. This slower pace helps maintain tension throughout the adventure, as players never know what they might encounter around the next corner. Visually, the game embraces pixel-art graphics that complement its horror themes surprisingly well. The retro presentation may appear simple at first glance, but it proves effective in creating a sense of isolation and mystery. Limited visual detail allows the imagination to fill in the gaps, often making encounters feel more disturbing than they would with fully detailed graphics. The dark office interiors, dimly lit hallways, and empty cubicles create a persistent feeling of discomfort that supports the overall atmosphere. Sound and environmental design also play an important role in sustaining the horror. The quiet office spaces, combined with sudden paranormal occurrences and eerie surroundings, help create a constant sense of anticipation. Rather than overwhelming players with nonstop scares, the game builds dread gradually. This approach makes supernatural encounters more impactful and keeps players engaged in the mystery from beginning to end. While the game does not offer the depth or production values of larger horror releases, it succeeds by focusing on a specific concept and executing it effectively. Players seeking extensive mechanics or action-oriented gameplay may find the experience somewhat limited, but fans of atmospheric indie horror will likely appreciate its focused design. The paranormal investigation theme, combined with the unusual office setting, gives the game a distinctive charm that separates it from many other independent horror titles. Overall, Ryo The Haunted Office delivers an entertaining supernatural adventure that relies on atmosphere, storytelling, and exploration rather than spectacle. Its unique workplace setting, intriguing backstory, and retro-inspired presentation create an experience that feels both nostalgic and unsettling. Although modest in scope, it offers enough mystery and tension to satisfy players looking for a short but memorable horror journey. Rating: 6/10
