Gave it a honest try, It was fun... but this game is an EARLY ACCESS / ALPHA, I can't imagine why they released this. I would give this game a thumbs up in EARLY ACCESS, but not a full release
I played the crap out of the original Rune, mostly hours spent hacking and slashing friends over LAN multiplayer. This is nothing like the original, but it is still quite fun. Does anyone even remember the clunky as ^%$& original single player Rune? Reading some of these other reviews, I'm not so sure they do. Probably not though, since we all only ever played the multi-player for a meaningful period of time. Having now completed a play through, I'll say this much (may contains spoilers): PROS The world is pretty, and I dig the traveling portion. The game can be as non-linear as you want it to be. The combat is actually pretty fun The crafting system is a nice touch and intuitive Throw back to some of the original Rune weapons (I finally found something just like the Dwarven Work Sword) The "epochs" of the world as you progress the story are pretty great, and keep a rather small world interesting CONS The world is pretty small, and if you just railroaded the main story the game is pretty short The multiplayer mode is in BETA, and no one seems to be playing it right now. This was easily the best part of the original Several aspects of the game have an unfinished feel (male voice overs for female NPCs, recipes that can't be sorted etc.) For now I would buy it, understanding this is not a AAA title. Let's hope we can go back to hurling severed arms and heads at each other if they get the multiplayer figured out, since that is what really made the original Rune so fantastic.

Really sad to see this end up this way, I loved the original Rune growing up, Used to play it a ton, have really fond memories, this game has been abandoned not once, but twice now, the original developers Human Head Studios released it and then just up right closed up house entirely, then the game was picked up by Ragnarok Game, And they made a "Dev team" they said and released maybe 2-3 "fixes" then they also abandoned the game, had potential but they gave up entirely on the game, not worth buying.
It wont run, updates have stopped, thinking the devs abandoned it.
Ok,the Game seems to be abandoned now,so here is my Review. Waited a while because i always thought that maybe something happens with it. The Game looks and Sounds nice. Also the Fighting Feels good. But thats it,maybe Fun for 10 to 15 Hours. The Game is filled too much with Things of wich the Devs probably thought it could hook Players but nothing is well thought out. Like a Frankensteins Monster thats put together way Worse. Forget the Crafting, and building Stuff. Also the Defense Missions, everything is Buggy and sometimes Unbalanced. So basicly the only Thing about it that is Good is something that came over from the First Rune. And for Sure the Artstyle,Trolls in the Game and the Chars look good, you get pretty Athmospheric Stuff there. If the Game is on Sale, and the Theme is yours, maybe grab it.But dont expect much. You get a good Viking Fighting Game for around 10 Hours, the Rest is pure Buggy Filler in Alpha State. Otherwise avoid this Game and to Hel with it. Absolutely cant Recommend it.
played this and was optimistic about the promised optimizations after upgrading my pc the game is either to ugly to play or to choppy to play.it was fun but some areas still drop fps.
6 hours in and all my saved progress got lost for no reason. Yay
If you're expecting this to be anything like the original Rune, prepare to be disappointed. This game is hot garbage. It looks like a PS1 game and handles like a school bus filled with badgers that were lit on fire. The game is like minecraft, if minecraft was terrible. Really a bummer because I loved the original Rune but I wouldn't recommend this, unless you got it for free, then I still don't recommend it and you should still ask for a refund.
Played to the end hoping to find a reason to like it but couldn't.
