Rock the Islands is a hidden gem for anyone who loves a good adventure-crafting loop. 🏝️⚔️ The game does a great job of blending exploration with satisfying resource management. It feels like a mix of classic survival titles and casual base-builders, but with its own colorful, low-poly charm. Saving villagers and putting them to work gives you a real sense of progression as you build up your strength to take on the Evil Mage. It’s the perfect "pick-up-and-play" experience—easy to get into, but deep enough to keep you hooked as you unlock better gear and discover distant lands. If you're looking for something cozy yet engaging to play with friends or solo, this is a must-have!

I think a lot of these positive reviews are either paid, fake or by people who don't have a higher bar for quality and are easily pleased. Having to constantly respawn and lose all of your gathered materials, because the AI can't assist you, gets rather tiring after a couple of hours. The enemies increase in power far quicker than you and eventually end up overwhelming you and your puny AI helpers. The overall concept seems okay, but I've already had enough after two hours and don't wish to play any longer. The combat is fairly dismal, to be honest. You prioritise gathering materials over enemies when they ambush you, which leads to more deaths than I feel is acceptable. This leads back into the endless respawning issue. I made a ton of upgrades to my defence, gathered a fair amount of regenerative perks (?) and it made no difference whatsoever. I was still dying in three or four hits. If that is the entire gameplay loop, dying over and over, then it's a hard no.
Sh*t game, full of "features" that just make the game worse and a chore to play. You lose all resources and money on death, and your dwellers don't revive you. Pirates can raid you at any time, including when you're in a minigame. More than half of my dwellers died on the pirate ship, and the ship left, leaving the bodies floating in mid air where I couldn't reach them. Combat is awful and the devs seem to not care about appealing to their playerbase. Solo is miserable and resources aren't shared in co-op. The roulette wheel has a pretty sizeable chance to just kill you, and if you're on solo that means losing everything because dwellers don't revive. You can buy roulette coins with real money, basically promoting gambling. Reminder that this game is available to children with steam, and promotes itself as family friendly.
