The game is a troll. They add artificial difficulty to not let you finish the game with hidden things that you need to look out on internet to know about. Poor game design even though there are a lot of good ideas, ♥♥♥♥ your moon detonation I jumped in the blue orbs to no avail, no visual cue to help you and this is made such that you die after 1 hour of fight. It's useless except to frustrate players and artificially increase game length by asking you to restart form scratch and pray now you can make the blue orbs work within 3 minutes.
Basically a very nice game. nothing more to add to it. but i beg you... LET THE PLAYER SEE THE ITEM DESCRIPTION WITHOUT NEEDING TO PICK IT UP (since you cant drop them for whatever reason)
loder
The game should be renamed to Risk of Peak 2
This game just did not stick with me. I found it to be one of the most boring and uninteresting roguelikes I've ever played. First the positives: The music was alright, not amazing but ok. The survivor designs are pretty neat, the overall aesthetic is.. neat and I'd say Solus Wing was my favourite boss. That's about everything I liked. Now for the problems. The time-based difficulty scaling is one of the most annoying mechanics I've ever seen. It constantly feels like you're rushing because if you spend too long exploring, suddenly every enemy starts taking forever to kill while every hit deletes half your health. A lot of the survivors are also just annoying to play, especially the melee ones. Getting close to bosses is incredibly risky and some fights feel like they were never designed with melee characters in mind. The items are boring as hell, most of them are just stat increases or status effects that really aren't super fun to play around with and by the late game seemingly you're just meant to obliterate everything as quickly as possible because a stray drop of piss will kill you which is super good game design :) Another thing that really annoyed me was the damage. You don't slowly lose health over the course of a run, you're either completely fine or you instantly explode because one random attack decided to erase your health bar and it makes deaths feel really cheap. Most enemies also just shoot projectiles at you which I found way more annoying than the enemy design in the first game. Teleporter events become a chore because enemies keep spawning all around you while firing from every direction. The stages are also really bland. They don't feel like actual places and more like a static plane with chests and shrines slapped onto them The final boss also sucks. Depending on your build he either dies in two minutes or 20, and if you're playing a melee survivor the fight becomes even more miserable. I'm also really not a fan of how the game looks. Compared to the clean pixel art of the 2D games, everything here has this weird glossy, blobby look that I just don't like. Even the item models are inconsistent. Looking through the logbook you'll notice things like the Crowbar being absolutely massive for no reason, and a lot of the textures are really pixelated. Finally, the DLCs are pretty overpriced for what they add. I just don't think there's anywhere near enough content in them to justify the price. Overall this game was a chore to finish, the original version might have been worse on a technical level, but at least it was 3 times shorter. I give this game a 3/10, what a perfect ending to this mediocre franchise
This game is a MUST play, it is THAT good. Music is always a masterpiece and is always great to go back to. Infinite replay-ability as well.
This game is so addicting
Absolute blast playing this game!
Very good game, after a few hours in i think i'm starting to get the hang of it.
I'd like to say that this game is good. The store page looks very fresh today. However, it paints a very different picture of the total experience that this game has offered, as a person who used to be incredibly passionate about it. Following 1.0, the game was an amazing experience, but it had problems. Two years without any content left this game's main gameplay loop feeling very dry post-completion. While some characters like Captain or Mul-t have a lot of different options to choose from; other characters like commando, huntress, even bandit feel much less developed in comparison. The game's item variety, which at first glance seems very diverse, became increasingly narrow when you realized that the dominant strategy revolved around finding the items with the best general purpose. Other, more niche items, had much less, or zero conceivable purpose. Which made their existence noninteractive and frustrating. Consigning even red, or boss items to, scrapper at best, straight up detrimental at worst. In my opinion, drawing the few items that actually do have a purpose, pales in comparison to the times that you get items that would be better... reworked. Entirely. Regardless, the game still worked, and it was fun. It just felt like it was severely hampered by it's less-complete areas. However, those issues were very small in comparison to the whole experience of running this game. At any time you could boot it up, and have a very fun, or competitive feeling experience, condensed into a run. There were also a variety of ways to end, or continue the game. It's very obvious to me, and to the friends I played this game with at the time, that what kept this game going was it's solid replayability and the promise of further development following early-access. The problem is that it stayed in this state for a very long time, with very little communication from hopoo, as to it's continued development. Leaving the community to reflect on present content, discuss item niches, and speculate on the next big content drop. Survivors of the Void released in 2022 as a very very sweet addition, but it did little to fill in other obvious areas in which the game still felt empty, or broken. Following a preliminary period of bugfixes. The total content offered was: 41 items, five maps, a bunch of monsters, and variants. andyou know what i dont give a ♥♥♥♥ anymore. The biggest news that this brought was months before release it was bought by Borderlands dev. I played this broken ♥♥♥♥ for 6 years only for it to get purchased by gearbox, and then fed through DLC, and external licensing. dont buy this ♥♥♥♥ they're not gonna develop it. Post-Sotv DLC feels completely different from the previous identity of this game without even half of the charm. This game is a shadow of it's former self. Only carried by the fact that Chris Christodoulou posts all of the soundtrack publicly. Rest in peace.
