SCAM LIKELY
Flagged and reported to Valve. Pretty clearly a quick RPGMaker job based on a popular IP(One PIece) to trick people into unknowingly mining crypto for the "developer". A very sloppy and poorly coded game at best. Here's what I sent to Valve: "Account sign-up uses an unsecure website, and while running the game introduces anywhere from one to three rogue processes that run in the background separately from the game client. Trying to close these extra processes requires Steam to be restarted, if not my PC. Most likely a crypto mining scam game."

Rise of the Pirates is an Abandoned Early Access 2D top down retro pixel multiplayer only action MMORPG. It was abandoned by the developers roughly 2 years ago, according to the last manifest update on SteamDB. The game would not properly launch for me. It failed. While for some years it had a dozen or so players on BYOND, SteamDB shows the game only attracted around 50 players for the Steam launch, most of whom left, and now the game has practically no players, with numbers less than 20 on any given day, not enough to support a functional MMORPG. Why did it fail? It's video game autopsy time! First up the game visuals are terrible, the overall quality here is woeful. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. MMORPG fans have literally hundreds of games to choose from, hundreds of AAA games that are either free or cost next to nothing. Games have to actually offer something if they want to compete for players time. Part of the reason for the game failing was predatory, Pay To Win monetization. The game is absolutely infested with nasty monetization schemes. There's literally nothing you could do in the game without the developers breaking down your door and holding their hands out for money. That isn't cool, and gamers hate that crap. The developers made the terrible mistake of launching a multiplayer only game in Early Access in an incomplete state. This is almost certain to kill the game. Most gamers will evaluate a game only once. If they do so when the game is incomplete, they will check it out, then abandon it (just like the developers did). When (IF) the game eventually does get around to release, there will be no players, because the developers burned the first impressions through their faulty Early Access experience. Players who saw the game and didn't like it because it was incomplete do not come back. Multiplayer games must have a large population if they are to go "viral" and succeed, especially without single player content to fall back on. Releasing a multiplayer only game into early access kills the game population, and thus the game, before the game even launches.

This game has existed (off steam) for close to a decade but there's still almost nothing to do in it besides grind. In fact, the game seems to be designed with nothing but the grind in mind. Despite boasting impressive active player numbers, at any given moment ninety percent of those people are just AFK training, a built in feature of the game. Pve consists of standing in one place holding down the space bar until the enemy dies, since they only have melee attacks and very simple AI. Crafting is extremely tedious and ultimately pointless, since you can't customize your creations and you'll constantly be finding much better gear than you can craft. Exploration is fruitless, despite this being a one piece knock off game. The majority of the map is empty ocean. Most of the very small number of islands have nothing to see besides slightly stronger enemies. There's only one real town, so you'll constantly be making the long trip back there for basic features like item storage. PvP is sort of fun, but outside of one or two events that ignore your stats you can't meaningfully participate until you grind to max level. (600!) There are a wide variety of classes, but they're almost all DPS focused. Do you want to throw fireballs or shoot bullets? Just pick whatever looks coolest to you, it's basically all the same. Except for the 4-5 classes that are considered endgame viable, rendering everything else pointless. The quest system is a joke. Unique/story quests dry up almost immediately after the tutorial, leaving you with only endlessly repeatable "Collect 50 bear paws." chaff. Most of the updates in the past few years seem to have focused on monetization, so if you want to spend a ton of money on cosmetics for a glorified idle game, that's there for you. But the only option to purchase premium currency is a PayPal transaction directly to the developer on a web page that doesn't even list prices. So, uh, buyer beware.
Really enjoyed this game! It really pulls you in and makes you want to know what happens next. I'm glad I gave it a go!
This game is trash. The PVP is the worst part.
Horrible game. Very buggy, feels bad to play and is boring. Lots of typos in UI. UI elements will break randomly.
