So, I've got asked to review the game through my curator connect, it is first time I've been asked to review a demo of a game instead of the whole game, irrespective of the status of the game (EA, pre-release or post-release) and I've decided to do a demo review, but the game got in my way... Turn-based tactics are mixed here with card-deckbuilding and an annoying camera. As an X-Com fan I was quite curious to try this, and when you first start the game it greats you with a quality picture, and an annoying camera angle that you can't adjust, a mere nuisance I though, but then you get to play with the cards, and I gotta say they look forced, I mean it appears that devs had no ideas how to stand out from other turn-based tactical games and decided to add a system that looks out of place with a variety of cards compensating for lack of depth in the card options. Based on this demo I can't recommend it and doubt that the actual game will be any better. One Grumpy Russian score 4/10 - mediocre and forced ideas make this game boring and uninteresting, like a pizza with a topping made from corn flakes, you can still call it a pizza, but won't recommend to anyone. No reason not to give this prologue a go... but current game design feels very strange... err... bad. I can't imagine gameplay loop wasn't inspired by Gloomhaven. That's a good plan - Gloomhaven is a really good game. But there's things in Gloomhaven's design you can't just jettison without making the game weird. Gloomhaven has a tight economy around movement. Maybe you find that frustrating, but you can't just lose that without breaking stuff. Here your character gets 6 hexes of movement free (while your enemies seem to have very little) and you can mix and match movement with actions. Fun and flexible right? Well... except it means nothing matters, because you can trivially kite everything. I feel like at one point movement was card based, and they ditched that to make the game more accessible without really considering it much. That's not a good pattern. Did they playtest this prologue, and were they happy with the tactical gameplay that's here? The hand economy feels weird/confused. You redraw to 5 each turn, keeping what you have. Is "discarding a card" supposed to be a cost? Because it's absolutely a payoff that helps you push through bad cards. This means that most turns you'll be using both your "discard for melee" and "discard for movement" options. If possible, you'll also want to use the "discard a card when you disengage from an enemy" thing (which seems like it should be a cost not a benefit) each turn too. If you're going to have "madness" cards that trigger on discard (as they do), giving everyone 2 (or 3) free discard effects a turn is going to make them very difficult to balance (or make their "hard cast cost" irrelevant). Is getting a new card when you kill an enemy supposed to be a punishment? Because that's what a new card usually is in a deck builder when you can't refuse it. Did I miss something in the interface? Or is the cost to going on a mission that you have to clear out junk from your deck? That would be lame. Is every mission going to have time pressure (the intro missions have none...)? Because if not, you're rewarded for standing there cycling through your deck to play out all your buffs. That would be a super boring/lame pattern. There isn't a lot of skills listed, but what's there is dangerous. Like, you can get an upgrade that says "ranged weapons do double damage in melee range". I get that thematically... but that skill's existence places some pretty tight restrictions on your design space if you want to avoid both "the best melee build uses all ranged attacks" or "none of these ranged attacks do enough damage unless I'm standing next to the enemy". Maybe they can make that work... but it seems more like the kind of thing that you'll never get balanced... the kind of skill you'd quickly revamp after any kind of playtesting. Anyway, there's no reason this couldn't end up being a good game. Technically it seems fine, and the mechanics could work... but it's weird to release this in such a terrible game design state.
战旗与卡牌相结合,有藏身处可以升级,带点养成。剧情一般。
short but free demo/prologue of an interesting take on deck-building and turn-based strategy... looks promising!
A buggy nightmare .
5/10 A mix of CCG and XCom in sci-fi setting. Good: - the graphics are very nice, the style reminds XComs but also with big robots - music and sfx a good So-so: - it's demanding to the hardware. I played on the lowest gfx settings and still had rather poor performance (NVidia GTX1050) Bad: - the core mechanic of using cards to perform actions in a tactical game like XCom doesn't work in my opinion. Moving is fine. But to simply hit the enemy with a crowbar (something that should take 1 or at most 2 clicks) you need to locate a card in your hand (this involves an animation of cards getting bigger while you hover over them, and cards overlap each other making it harder to find the correct card), drag it simply somewhere on the screen to "play" the card, then right click on the enemy to attack. Because of poor performance all this lags horribly. This is just ridiculously cumbersome for no reason other than the devs insist it should be a CCG game. I can easily imagine how the whole system could work without the damn cards: you just have abilities (like in World of Warcraft for example), shown as neat icons in a panel at the bottom of the screen. When you hover the mouse over the abilities, you have a tooltip that explains their usage. But there could be the energy cost indicator over each icon. Then you just left-click the ability and left-click the target. This would work fine for every possible card (ability!) they have in the game without the idiotic animations of the cards and the dragging. Instead of cards the player just collects abilities. Problem solved. Overall, I see a lot of work gone into a project that should have been abandoned at the prototype stage. Seems like someone wants to have a cards game no matter what. Still, I can imagine some fans of CCG genre wanting to play this simply because they're into cards. And a resemblance of a spatial, tactical game may be an "improvement" for them over just normal card games. But to a tactical games fan this game is clumsy nonsense. I pity the labor of the artists here. Tons of content produced in vain. Still it's 5/10 (I guess some people might like a game like this) and an upvote since there is no "neutral vote".
This games has a nice mix of deckbuilding and tactical card-based combat. I was very impressed with this game, knowing that this is only a demo, the final release will be something to look out for.
